Default The Reason Obama Was Elected

    August 18, 2011
    Obama: The Affirmative Action President
By Matt Patterson (columnist - Washington Post, New York Post, San Francisco Examiner)

Years from now, historians may regard the 2008 election of Barack Obama as an inscrutable and disturbing phenomenon, a baffling breed of mass hysteria akin perhaps to the witch craze of the Middle Ages. How, they will wonder, did a man so devoid of professional accomplishment beguile so many into thinking he could manage the world's largest economy, direct the world's most powerful military, execute the world's most consequential job?

Imagine a future historian examining Obama's pre-presidential life: ushered into and through the Ivy League despite unremarkable grades and test scores along the way; a cushy non-job as a "community organizer"; a brief career as a state legislator devoid of legislative achievement (and in fact nearly devoid of his attention, so often did he vote "present") ; and finally an unaccomplished single term in the United States Senate, the entirety of which was devoted to his presidential ambitions. He left no academic legacy in academia, authored no signature legislation as a legislator.

And then there is the matter of his troubling associations: the white-hating, America-loathing preacher who for decades served as Obama's "spiritual mentor"; a real-life, actual terrorist who served as Obama's colleague and political sponsor. It is easy to imagine a future historian looking at it all and asking: how on Earth was such a man elected president?

Not content to wait for history, the incomparable Norman Podhoretz addressed the question recently in the Wall Street Journal:
To be sure, no white candidate who had close associations with an outspoken hater of America like Jeremiah Wright and an unrepentant terrorist like Bill Ayers, would have lasted a single day. But because Mr. Obama was black, and therefore entitled in the eyes of liberaldom to have hung out with protesters against various American injustices, even if they were a bit extreme, he was given a pass.
Let that sink in: Obama was given a pass -- held to a lower standard -- because of the color of his skin.

    Podhoretz continues:
And in any case, what did such ancient history matter when he was also so articulate and elegant and (as he himself had said) "non-threatening," all of which gave him a fighting chance to become the first black president and thereby to lay the curse of racism to rest?

Podhoretz puts his finger, I think, on the animating pulse of the Obama phenomenon -- affirmative action. Not in the legal sense, of course. But certainly in the motivating sentiment behind all affirmative action laws and regulations, which are designed primarily to make white people, and especially white liberals, feel good about themselves.

Unfortunately, minorities often suffer so that whites can pat themselves on the back. Liberals routinely admit minorities to schools for which they are not qualified, yet take no responsibility for the inevitable poor performance and high drop-out rates which follow. Liberals don't care if these minority students fail; liberals aren't around to witness the emotional devastation and deflated self esteem resulting from the racist policy that is affirmative action.

    Yes, racist.
Holding someone to a separate standard merely because of the color of his skin -- that's affirmative action in a nutshell, and if that isn't racism, then nothing is. And that is what America did to Obama.

True, Obama himself was never troubled by his lack of achievements, but why would he be? As many have noted, Obama was told he was good enough for Columbia despite undistinguished grades at Occidental; he was told he was good enough for the US Senate despite a mediocre record in Illinois; he was told he was good enough to be president despite no record at all in the Senate. All his life, every step of the way, Obama was told he was good enough for the next step, in spite of ample evidence to the contrary. What could this breed if not the sort of empty narcissism on display every time Obama speaks?

In 2008, many who agreed that he lacked executive qualifications nonetheless raved about Obama's oratory skills, intellect, and cool character. Those people -- conservatives included -- ought now to be deeply embarrassed. The man thinks and speaks in the hoariest of clichés, and that's when he has his teleprompter in front of him; when the prompter is absent he can barely think or speak at all.

And what about his character? Obama is constantly blaming anything and everything else for his troubles. Bush did it; it was bad luck; I inherited this mess. It is embarrassing to see a president so willing to advertise his own powerlessness, so comfortable with his own incompetence. But really, what were we to expect? The man has never been responsible for anything, so how do we expect him to act responsibly?

In short, our president is a small and small-minded man, with neither the temperament nor the intellect to handle his job.

Yep! Obama never learned personal responsibility, and has no appreciation for others that do. It was that same group who thinks all of life is an entitlement that are responsible for foisting him upon us. This is not new, as the Germans found when they brought Hitler to power under the same basic premise. But this is America, and we have plenty that provides the example not only to us, but to the world. It is to our shame that these fools who have no clue have been allowed to steal our country. It is now time to take it back, and make it another lesson to the world as to what happens when the unworthy wrest hope from a free and empowered people. Obama must pay for numerous crimes he has committed in office, along with such treasonous supporters as Eric Holder, Valerie Jarret, Van Jones, Cass Sunstein... it's such a long list, and we are to blame for letting it happen. We are also responsible for making sure it NEVER happens again.

    "The Reason Obama Was Elected"

Easy answer, the takers have outnumbered the producers. Probably going get a lot worse in years to come. The PC crowd (Pushing Communism)and the socialist have risen to a point were I fear there will be no return to an America that we used to know. Both sides are culpable and both do not really want to change the path we're on. TOO much control by the few over the masses. And now an overwhelming amount of Americans are attached to the Gov't teat. Yes, they do vote. The only question I have is HOW much more of my fruit are they going to take.

    I'll add to this

"Dr. Sowell on Occupy Wall Street..."

This should be read by everyone. Dr. Sowell started out as a Marxist; with education and time realized the terrible flaws in the Marxist theories. This is his hardest hitting commentary to date and is absolutely correct.
    By Dr. Sowell
The current Occupy Wall Street movement is the best illustration to date of what President Barack Obama's America looks like. It is an America where the lawless, unaccomplished, ignorant and incompetent rule. It is an America where those who have sacrificed nothing pillage and destroy the lives of those who have sacrificed greatly.

It is an America where history is rewritten to honor dictators, murderers and thieves. It is an America where violence, racism, hatred, class warfare and murder are all promoted as acceptable means of overturning the American civil society.

It is an America where humans have been degraded to the level of animals: defecating in public, having sex in public, devoid of basic hygiene. It is an America where the basic tenets of a civil society, including faith, family, a free press and individual rights, have been rejected. It is an America where our founding documents have been shredded and, with them, every person's guaranteed liberties.

It is an America where, ultimately, great suffering will come to the American people, but the rulers like Obama, Michelle Obama, Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, Barney Frank, Chris Dodd, Joe Biden, Jesse Jackson, Louis Farrakhan, liberal college professors, union bosses and other loyal liberal/Communist Party members will live in opulent splendor.

It is the America that Obama and the Democratic Party have created with the willing assistance of the American media, Hollywood, unions, universities, the Communist Party of America, the Black Panthers and numerous anti-American foreign entities.

Barack Obama has brought more destruction upon this country in four years than any other event in the history of our nation, but it is just the beginning of what he and his comrades are capable of.

The Occupy Wall Street movement is just another step in their plan for the annihilation of America.

That pretty much covers it. The progressive socialist liberal party is in control and breeding at a rapid rate.

The good Doctor has written a good book, one of many. Black Rednecks and White Liberals. It's an eye opener, dry in some places as the good Doctor is an economist, but worthy of your time. ((IF)) anyone wants to further educate themselves. ( I do believe some on this site do!)

Where does he get that the OWS movement is from demoncraps and nobammy? IMO it is exactly the opposite. There are lots of examples of bad behavior but the original premise was to object to nobammy's policies and practices. To object to big business running our everyday lives. The movement has been infiltrated with political stooges till it no longer has any semblance of it's original mass movement. The politicos saw what could have become a real threat and watered it down with blips of news that offends most decent people.

The OWS "movement", such as it was/is, has no "central theme", no control, in many demonstrated instances, no logic. Just a bunch of disgruntled souls who discovered, somewhat belatedly, that their hitherto rather sheltered existance was about to get a dose of reality, a dose of life without the "care and feeding" of someone (anyone) rather than through their own efforts. Given a history of "no effort" at self reliance to build on... it is absolutely no wonder at all that they are dismayed, confused and angered. (WAAAAH! Where's my "rose garden"?)

That other "factions" of American life, typically with the common theme that America has somehow shortchanged them, "threw in" with them, for the furtherance of their own "agendas" is also no surprise. So easily led and controlled they are.

Just another manifestation of the "I want!" self centeredness children learn very early in life. If their immediate needs are not met with instant gratification, they "act out" until they DO get their way. If no one has the chutzpah to curtail/contain/circumvent this rather displeasing behavior pattern (i.e. TEACH the child that self centeredness is NOT considered a virture of a mature adult.), the pattern will continue until, cronologically, the person is of adult age, but has not matured a bit.

Thus we have a bunch of "dependents" not willing to forge forth on their own recognisance in life, but expect someone else to "take care of them" and grant them their every need and want. Perpetual adolesence. Perpetual dependency.

There are ever so many "Politicians" (Read: Power Mongers) who are more than willing to throw you a few bones, making you think they are "helping you", when in reality all they are doing is purchasing your continued "support" at the ballot box AND keeping you in perpetual financial slavery, perpetual dependency and perpetual childhood.

This Socialist Valhalla works until, as Maggie Thatcher once commented, the Government runs out of other peoples' money to spend on the project. Very perceptive, ol' Maggie. I contend that even the US, most prosperous Nation to come forth spawned from humanity, is finally running out of money for the "project", too. (Did our economically inept Congresscritters believe that we could just print/borrow up more money when we [they] needed it? Without trashing the Nation's economy en toto?)

OWC, a noble and lofty group of idealists? Nope. Just a bunch of spoiled, greedy, immature brats with a strong case of "I want!" that no one ever told them would eventually only be satisfied by their OWN efforts in the long run.
