No........no. My parents were not scared even of the fringe of my generation. Oh, they didn't care for the music, long hair, or drugs.

I am not afraid of these things. I am afraid of these things becoming the norm. The fringe of my generation eventually became more acceptable, but not the norm by any stretch of the imagination.

I don't even know what would be considered the fringe nowadays. I guess human cannibals, Americans that boil dead cats and eat them, etc. Even Lizardman (Eric Sprague) isn't the fringe anymore:

Yes and No. Although some things are due to seeing with experienced eyes (ie: older) there are a lot of things that are becoming acceptable that never would have been in the past. It seems that the more we accept immoral behavior as normal, the faster we decline. I'm not saying that we legislate morality, but as a culture we need to get back to understanding that some things are just plain wrong. Also, the gulf between our government and the people has never been wider and it is growing each day. Since 9/11 we have accepted intrusions into our private lives and the trampling on our freedoms not seen since the Civil War. The difference is that the Civil War was always expected to end while the War On Terror is not going to end, at least not in our lifetime. Every day we lose freedoms in the name of security, and the people are looking more and more like the enemy to our government.

I know Boehner and Reid are both obstructing everything in DC. However that is not necessarily a bad thing. The less that happens in DC the better off the rest of the Nation probably is.

As i like to compare us to Ancient Rome,once a world military power who stretched themselves too thin,while at home spending and absolute decadence amongst the ones thought to be the chosen ones..

I am not religious at all, i do treat humans of any background as I wish to be treated until otherwise I witness a behavior i dont care for or treat me and my family badly. That said I live by those rules under a rule of law as an American, a Proud Vet, Retired Cop and Father to 5 kids (22yo to 14 Months). If ever the thin line between order and Chaos ever disappears ( Like a Katrina or any other disaster man made or natural) I would circle the wagons with an already predetermined group of 40 people. In other words I wouldnt change philosophies unless an apocolypse or some other event threatened my safety or any of my families..

Recorded History has shown us it repeats itself. Many societies of great wealth and power have made same mistakes that we are currently making and have been making since probably Viet Nam Era, w our Foot Pedal to the medal since the 80's w no alowing down in sight, even though the emergency reserve light has bern on for miles we continue to push ot.

No world power has ever stayed dominant permantly, some from being invaded, or by internal strife. I dunno why we as American's are so arrogant and stupid we havent dome more to stop it, our leaders especially the entire congress and Senate bicker over meaningless issues juat becauae they are of a different party and the makority suffers and continues to do so, these guys all of em need to be fired and replace them w the Average American who will answer directly to no ONE but his constituents. Bog Corporations are the real demise, they reap record profits, yet send jobs overseas and pay politicians unlimited funds to which that corruption has spilled into the US Supreme Court recents decision of allowing an ATM card for any politician that wishes to be in the pocket of there interests.. Its inevitable as they wanna stay in power forever and to do such needs a bottomless war chest..

Political Leaders should have a job that is so difficult and so draining w stress no one would want it past say 4-5 years w the same time off needed to run at a higher level, once they get in they say whatever they need to do to stay( reminds me of a horned out teenager w the local girl of ill repute who is trying to holdout but he promised the moon never to talk to her again). Anyhow, if something osnt radically changed we will too eventually have a Civil War, Google Page Ranking a foreign invasion or complete collapse of infrastructure and allows a combo or division of the USA.

The only way to stop it is to change policy and behaviors that would take a huge hit to the American ego. We need to bring home all our troops from Countries that seem to be a atrategic Advantage for defense. This isnt the American Hey Day any longer, we cant help you as we ourselves need fixing and just by pulling the entire Military outta Germany, Japan, Korea, Middle East the troop levels alone in the USA would allow the Americans to benefit from jobs, and all the money spent abroad by the Govt that is wasted would help a lot of issues. How do we even allow ourselves to buy into the chicken little philisophy when half the problem is occupation anyhow. Bringing them home and changing the constitution to allow them Critical Homeland Jobs like Border amd Customs would stop a problem and help us at same time..

Korea and Iran and Pakistan have Nuclear capability, those Capabilities wont be stopped if we simply have pur troops in same locations as they were when those non proliferation countries obtained, built and implimented the use of them. We and the intl community have done nothing to atop em so why would it work now ? It wont those who want you to believe otherwise have ever expanflding wealth and would risk only Funding the next 10 generations of there family, not the next 40.

We really need to remember that a good offense is run by a great defense. The current Deployment of usa defense resources has broken our military to the point of being defeated by any capable enemy like Russia ir China if we dont change fast. The Russians pulled out of the countries under Warsaw and we need to stop expanding and even break off the Nato alliance and allow Europe to fend for itself as 65 yrs of aid and Occupation has allowed us to take care of iur 4th cousin but allowed our father, mother, brothers and sisters to go poor, sick and some have died slow death to which coul have been prevented by maintaning us first... Homeland First.. If our AF was on alert like they afe in The mid East the 911 hijackers would have been blown from the sky, but Skies over Europe and former cold war allies would have had scrambled Jets armed w missiles and what to do to deploy a use of force for a new aged suicide attack from the sky.

This is just a suggestion and isnt a concrete statement.. Unlike my Elected Leaders I can and will change my mind when i hear a better plan, one that includes us first and no mention of anyone else until we fix and completely stop the fast destruction of America !

Times have changed. Fifty years ago people robbing things from your house didn't carry guns because they didn't want the additional criminal charges over simple robbery. Now they burst in shoot everyone so there's no witnesses and steal your computers and flat-screen TVs. They shot and killed a lady just north of my house a few months ago because she and her partner were so brazen as to come home during the theft of their TV. They are working neighborhoods like salesmen used to except these are thieves and killers. They spot their victims at the grocery store, at church or walking down the street. They follow potential victims to see where they live. They send children to the door asking directions or claiming to sell magazines but actually to see if there's a burglar alarm and to spot TVs and other electronics. They are profiling us like we profile them.

This isn't rampant paranoia by the way, the police asked the "gang" how they picked neighborhoods and specific houses and the last few sentences above is what they said.

Thirty years ago I had a camera on the passenger seat of my car while driving in case I saw something of interest while now I have a gun between that seat and the console in case something is a little too interested in me. I've been told "it's just a car it's not worth your or anyone's life". I say "what is worth your life, anything?".

The people they busted here who were farming our neighborhood were mostly 18 year-olds. Carrying .45s by the way. I refuse to let them steal what it took me a lifetime to earn. If they want a TV or a car GET A JOB and work for it like we did.

We in the United States have been spoiled by 100+ years of relative safety in our homes and walking down our streets. The economy and the instant gratification generation is ending that. We are moving into a society resembling a cross between 1984 and A Clockwork Orange.

It also happened in the Roman Empire, the last time in history any empire was as powerful as the USSR or the USA.

It is dangerous whenever either party takes over the whole government. As much as both parties, the so-called "conservatives" (which are conserving nothing) and the so called "liberals" (under whom there is becoming less and less liberty) are each hated by the other, having them both there fighting with each other does serve the pupose that only the most obvious and necessary things will get done. And even this small paltry bit just to ensure that each of them gets elected again by their devotees.

One simple question to settle who is the obstructionists in DC. When did the Senate pass a regular spending bill? Won't even bring bills to the floor that have passed the House.

The only way we avoid being just like the Romans is not to repeat their mistakes, ala with an overly powerful and self-biased government, poorly educated people happily dependent on that government, a total breakdown of any semblance of personal responsibility, and a society that considers ethics relative.

We seem to be repeating all of the USSR's mistakes, ergo I would say we are already doomed.
