It's already happened here...have we forgotten New Orleans so quickly? Most of those folks still haven't had their guns returned to them.
Also, it's happened nationwide in a sense. The COTUS says that the right to keep and bear (own and CARRY) arms shall not be infringed. It seems to me that many people have forgotten or never knew what the word "Infringe" means.
It means "to CUT INTO at the EDGE"...in other words, ANY CONTROL or restriction. Our rights have already been infringed, unconstitutionally, by requiring "permits" or "licenses" to carry a handgun in most states. For having to pay a "fee" for our right to carry. Or by limiting the number of rounds a magazine can hold, or how fast the gun can fire. Some states are worse than others, of course.
A right that must be bought is no right at all!! We are all excited when our state goes "Shall Issue"...but the Constitution says all states should have always been shall issue. And really, there should be nothing to issue...no license, permit, etc. Just get your gun and carry it.
And now we have to pay a fee for it, and we are happy. We accept the limitations and restrictions the government puts on us and think, "My, we are really moving forward with gun rights." It's pitiful that we can't see how far down in the hole we really are.
Sure, I know other countries are even worse, but they weren't founded on the principles our country was founded on.
And it has nothing to do with no stinking MILITIA! The Militia was NOT the military and certainly NOT the National Guard. It was plain old citizens, who OWNED THEIR OWN GUNS, who banded together to protect their own community...not the nation, not the state (in most cases), just their own town or county.
In time of war, they did work closely with the military, but they were not military themselves, and were not issued their weapons...they brought them from HOME!
Ok...I'm done...for now. How do I look? My tie straight? Is my face red? I'm going to step down now....
I just figured I'd let people know where I stand from the start...
