Default Obama's Record Versus Gun Rights

The following is from the USCC (Utah Shooting Sports Council) They do not endorse specific candidates for office however, they will provide information so we may all make wise choices, or the best and most knowledgeable choice possible during elections. The following is very important for all of us to be aware of as we decide whom we shall support or vote for in the upcoming Presidential Election. If this has already been posted elsewhere, my apologies:

ON THE SECOND AMENDMENT, DON'T BELIEVE OBAMA

Courtesy of the NRA here is a summary of Obama's record on gun issues. The same list,
but with footnotes providing the documented source for each fact is available at http://ww
w.nraila.org/Issues/FactSheets/Read.aspx?ID=234 where you can print out a pretty version
for distribution to your friends or club members.

The presidential primary season is finally over, and it is now time for gun owners to
take a careful look at just where apparent nominee Barack Obama stands on issues related
to the Second Amendment. During the primaries, Obama tried to hide behind vague
statements of support for “sportsmen” or unfounded claims of general support for the
right to keep and bear arms.

But his real record, based on votes taken, political associations, and long standing
positions, shows that Barack Obama is a serious threat to Second Amendment liberties.
Don’t listen to his campaign rhetoric! Look instead to what he has said and done during
his entire political career:

FACT: Barack Obama voted to allow reckless lawsuits designed to bankrupt the firearms
industry.
FACT: Barack Obama wants to re-impose the failed and discredited Clinton Gun Ban.
FACT: Barack Obama voted to ban almost all rifle ammunition commonly used for hunting and
sport shooting.
FACT: Barack Obama has endorsed a complete ban on handgun ownership.
FACT: Barack Obama supports local gun bans in Chicago, Washington, D.C., and other
cities.
FACT: Barack Obama voted to uphold local gun bans and the criminal prosecution of people
who use firearms in self-defense.
FACT: Barack Obama supports gun owner licensing and gun registration.
FACT: Barack Obama refused to sign a friend-of-the-court Brief in support of individual
Second Amendment rights in the Heller case.
FACT: Barack Obama opposes Right to Carry laws.
FACT: Barack Obama was a member of the Board of Directors of the Joyce Foundation, the
leading source of funds for anti-gun organizations and “research.”
FACT: Barack Obama supported a proposal to ban gun stores within 5 miles of a school or
park, which would eliminate almost every gun store in America.
FACT: Barack Obama voted not to notify gun owners when the state of Illinois did records
searches on them.
FACT: Barack Obama voted against a measure to lower the Firearms Owners Identification
card age minimum from 21 to 18, a measure designed to assist young people in the
military.
FACT: Barack Obama favors a ban on standard capacity magazines.
FACT: Barack Obama supports mandatory micro-stamping.
FACT: Barack Obama supports mandatory waiting periods.
FACT: Barack Obama supports repeal of the Tiahrt Amendment, which prohibits information
on gun traces collected by the BATFE from being used in reckless lawsuits against firearm
dealers and manufacturers.
FACT: Barack Obama supports one-gun-a-month sales restrictions.
FACT: Barack Obama supports a ban on inexpensive handguns.
FACT: Barack Obama supports a ban on the resale of police issued firearms, even if the
money is going to police departments for replacement equipment.
FACT: Barack Obama supports mandatory firearm training requirements for all gun owners
and a ban on gun ownership for persons under the age of 21.

USSC does not endorse candidates, but is providing this as educational material.

Unfortunately, McCain is not the poster child for 2nd ammenment rights. He has consistently voted in a manner that has given scores of C- or worse from the NRA and GOA.

It is only now that he is running for President that we see him soften his stance, but those are just words. We have his record.

Furthermore, while he states that he knows how to use them, he also state that he does not own one.

Bottom line it is going to be an interesting year or two for the 2nd amendment. I just hope it survives!!!

There's a huge gulf between "relative indifference" and "absolute disgust".

McCain probably has the attitude of your average Joe on the street. He recognizes it's a Constitutional right, he's fine with responsible people owning guns, but he's largely indifferent to firearms in general. There's nothing wrong with that. He's not against guns, he's just not aggressively pro-gun like we are.

Obama hates guns. Probably somewhere on his top 10 list is to, for all intents and purposes, ban ownership of most guns that aren't so neutered as to make them useless. He will make it hard to own one, to produce one, to sell one, to get ammunition, to use one, etc, etc.

McCain is the regular guy down the street who doesn't have a gun but doesn't mind everyone else having one. Or, he might get a shotgun for bird hunting but isn't really the type to carry.

Obama is some fruit-loop from France who freaks out at the idea of legalized gun ownership, and wants to know why the "government isn't keeping people safer".

I understand your points. I was just bringing up the fact that McCain has only become less aggressive in his gun control agenda since running for President.

I can't even imagine what will happen in Hussein gets in office.

While McCain may be a better choice for many, I don't really see a choice in this election.
