That's interesting reading. It's interesting in that the AMA would advocate a position purportedly embracing the welfare and safety of children while (some might say) slapping the Hypocratic Oath in the face by tolerating the membership of those who perform abortions. Personally - and no political comment is intended here, just an intellectual observation - I'm fascinated by the mentality that can decry the loss of life in the Iraqi war while turning a blind eye to . . . nay, even enthusiastically encouraging . . . the several millions of abortions that have been performed since Roe v Wade became law. It's OK to perform an abortion on an innocent fetus because the parent(s) might be inconvenienced by an unplanned birth, but it's inhumane to put someone like Geoffrey Dahmer to death.

I know these arguments have been made before and I'm not breaking any new ground, particularly, but it's posts like the AMA Policy that bring it home again to me. Sorry for the soapbox.

At least while reading the short paragraph under each heading I see the AMA knows the difference betweeen Automatic and Semi-Auto.

Our local doc. is a CCW holder and firearms enthusiast. My son and I have shot with him at our local designated outdoor shooting area before.

It's about the money when it comes to abortion. The questioning of our kids is political agenda. There might be some money involved in the anti-gun-rights agenda as well, but I don't see it right off the top. Maybe it's because most shooting victims - gang bangers - don't have the money for the surgery and it cuts into the profitability of the hospitals that most doctors have an interest in. That could be why some trauma centers are closing, too. There is no money in it like there is in abortion.

I'm a physician and personally, I think the AMA is worthless. I let my membership expire last year after realizing that I paid several hundred dollars per year and I disagreed with most of their positions. I know several docs that feel the same way, so we are out there.

I couldn't even read it all. I am glad I am a pharmacist and not a physician. I think it is a shame that a group that is supposed to support a profession is trying to fight against rights that have nothing to do with their profession. I am not a member of the American Pharmacist Association, but I am a member of the TN Pharmacist Association. Perhaps I check into their position, if any, on guns. If they are in any way for controlling them I will not hesitate to cancel this membership.

Well, I'm no Physician -or- a Pharmacist, so I don't have those connections to concern myself about, but I did cancel my membership in the AARP for their Liberal views and positions, and while I haven't cancelled my membership in it, I no longer attend my local American Legion meetings because the leadership there -- the vocal part of it, anyway -- is damn near Socialist and was sending out that sort of propaganda. I wrote taking them (him, actually) to task and was responded to by the County Adjutant with the same views.

I get a little . . . uhmmm . . . "testy" once in a while, and this became one of those instances. I got rude. What I should do is step up and wrest the leadership from them and steer it in another direction! Problem is that in order to do the job right you need serious time to invest, and I'm still working 55 to 60 hours a week. And by the time I make more time, hopefully we'll be outta here!

I canceled my AARP membership also many years ago when I learned about many of their stances. AARP is perhaps the largest lobby in the country, with many great benifits, but some of their stances just do not work for me.

This has been the AMA's position for a very long time. It seems to me to be a distortion of the Hyppocratic oath to support denying the least capable of defense the means to their own defense.

Which life are you sworn to support "for the good of my patients according to my ability and my judgement and never do harm to anyone"? Is it the innocent victims of the violent predators, or the predators themselves?

AMA, you are now and have been for a long time, bastardizing the oath.

I tend not to play well with others so I make it a rule not to attend or join any group that requires dues..AARP is one of them!
