The Department of Health has released a statement about Senator Barack Obama's official birth certificate.
There have been talk among some chat rooms that Senator Obama was not born in Hawaii, or even America for that matter, and therefore is ineligible to run for the office of President.
There have been various requests for copies of his Hawaii birth certificate to the Department of Health, all which have to be turned down.
"State law (Hawai'i Revised Statutes §338-18) prohibits the release of a certified birth certificate to persons who do not have a tangible interest in the vital record," said DOH Director Chiyome Fukino.
"Therefore, I as Director of Health for the State of Hawai'i, along with the Registrar of Vital Statistics who has statutory authority to oversee and maintain these type of vital records, have personally seen and verified that the Hawai'i State Department of Health has Sen. Obama's original birth certificate on record in accordance with state policies and procedures."
Fukino adds that no state leaders, including Governor Lingle, has asked the certificate be handled in any way different from any one else's vital records in state possession.

I find it very interesting that Dr. Fukino doesn't say anything about obama being born in Hawaii. All the statement says is that she has personally seen and verified that the original birth certificate is on record. She makes no mention to attest to the accuracy of any of the information on the "Certification of Live Birth" that the obama Campaign has produced.
I'm not a lawyer, so this is not a legal opinion, simply a personal one. The lawsuits that have been filed have been dismissed so far because they are premature. In order for there to be any merit to the lawsuit, obama must win the election. Since there's still a chance that McCain can win, right now there's no basis for the lawsuit. If McCain should win, then the people of the U.S. weren't "wronged" and the Constitution is still in tact. Should obama get elected, then I'm thinking that the many pending lawsuits will be heard and eventually SCOTUS will have to make a decision.
If obama was a good leader, he would put an end to the controversy and produce the actual document, or authorize the release of a copy of the document on file with the health department. Being that he's a lawyer by trade, he's well aware of the consequences of providing such damaging evidence. At this point I'm thinking that his primary goal is to get elected first, then use whatever means necessary to fight it out in court. Needless to say, this is going to be a much bigger problem than a bunch of "hanging chads" from the previous election!
