I don't really see this being something I need to be concerned about.
Any society that would give up a little liberty to gain a little security will deserve neither and lose both.

Clearly he's analyzing this from a Russian perspective, which is why he's gotten it all wrong.
Russian political attitudes tend to place a lot of importance on a central figure of power, such as the President or PM. The assumption seems to be that we expect Obama to deliver some sort of magic fairy solution, and when he can't, people will be incredibly disappointed. Neither of those assumptions are true. Even Obama supporters will note that he can't deliver anything overnight, and Americans as a whole seem to be against central authority to the point where we won't be fraught with anger when Obama can't do the impossible.
Most people here also don't identify strongly with ethnic identity. Although there's a lot of Spanish store signs in South Florida, it's not a Semi-Autonomous Region full of people who have been living there for millenia. Any problems that we might have with immigration or race is incredibly minor compared to what goes on between Serbs and Croats. We're not Eastern Europe, and I don't see huge portions of the country seceding, even in a severe economic crisis.

The thing with the civil war was 20% of the people were paying 80% of the taxes not to mention that the eastern seaboard was controlling the shipping of goods to europe and from europe to the US. The slave issue was used as a reason to inflict further punishment against the south in order to get them to comply with what the north wanted to do. Gee sounds familiar doesn't it. That my friends IS the truth.

i never could spell secession. may not be able to vote socialists out because the majority of them have been in Gov for years. and they do not call themselves socialists. they are democratic libs.and the nation as a whole has bought into the socialism lie because nearly every plank exists in our country under the guise of liberalism and liberals. and still most of the people here are![]()
The truth is that Lincoln couldn't have cared less about the welfare of the slaves. His foremost and paramount objective was to preserve the union. The Southern states, led by South Carolina, saw the election of Lincoln as a threat to their way of life (which was heavily dependent on slavery). Lincoln on the other hand, when South Carolina seceded, went all out to bring it and all the other seceded states back into the Union. The fact is, we don't know if Lincoln would have tried to put an end to slavery if those states had not seceded. My guess is that, rather than ending the practice of slavery, he would have worked to prevent it from spreading to states newly admitted to the union, the primary topic around which the presidential debates of 1860 centered.

America is devided. I am constantly amazed at how far we have drifted from our christian heritage. Wher do you think the founding fathers got all that good stuff in the constitution and the bill of rights? The good old black backed King James Bible. I am sure what I have hjust said has offened someone, and that isa proof what i say is true. Christian fundamentalists, of which i am one, are being seperated from "mainstream " conservatism, "liberals" are being seperated from whacko envirofacists, women's rights advocates are also deserting the democrat party. Very soon we will have a stagnant congress that can't get anything done. only two roads diverge from there; civil war, ort a fundamental change in the way the country is run, i.e. an abandonment of rule by constitution. We will either splinter into republics that reflect the idiology of the people who live there , or we will succumb to a form of fedral government like socialist Europe, or communist China. I don't think the latter is an option. The "crazy " Russian may be right.
