I agree that this is something to be concerned. However, if it had to be done somewhere, I'm glad it's that looney bin out west known as the People's Republic of California. No free state would ever allow their borders to be invaded like this. Maybe next, they can hit the cesspool known as the People's Republic of Illinois and drive Blagojevich out.

I do not agree with this either and this is setting a dangerous prescient. But When I was in "The Nam" in the Corps, we were not allowed any hard Alcohol. We had to trade for Jack Daniels with the Navy or Army. We were just too crazy. So I can see why the Morongo Native American Nation wants to keep the Crazy Marines from their Casino. That area is close to 29 "Stumps" (Twenty-nine Palms Air/Ground Command) a HUGE Marine base.

Here's an account of someone who spoke to spoke to one of the Marines overseeing the "mission".

Late this afternoon, I spoke with the Provost Marshal office, Corporal Knuesn. He indicated this may happen. I then spoke with the MCAGCC Public Affairs Chief, Gunny Sgt. Chris Cox.** He was very cooperative and informative about the mutual efforts of the Military Police and the CHP: “They will be working closely over the month to cut down of traffic accidents,” he said, “the Military Police will observe DUI check points and watch for their own guys. The intent is to have Military Presence out there.”

Supposedly they're just "observers" - but the question being begged is, why then are they out there to begin with? It's unbelievable that they'd just be out there to watch the cars go by.

The Posse Comitatus Act and the Insurrection Act substantially limit the powers of the federal government to use the military for law enforcement.

The Posse Comitatus Act is a United States federal law (18 U.S.C. § 1385) passed on June 16, 1878 after the end of Reconstruction. The Act prohibits most members of the federal uniformed services (the Army, Air Force, and State National Guard forces when such are called into federal service) from exercising nominally state law enforcement, police, or peace officer powers that maintain "law and order" on non-federal property (states and their counties and municipal divisions) in the former Confederate states.

The statute generally prohibits federal military personnel and units of the National Guard under federal authority from acting in a law enforcement capacity within the United States, except where expressly authorized by the Constitution or Congress. The Coast Guard is exempt from the Act.
