She'll have a hard time undoing the Heller case
Yes, it swung on one vote. But the Scalia opinion was masterful (even if he threw in a few too many Alice in Wonderland references), scholarly, and erudite. AND based on the law. Plus, several muicipalities and states have begun revamping their laws already, due to the Heller outcome and continued pressure from the NRA.
This isn't a republican vs democrat issue. Gun owners, and gun haters, come from both sides of the isle.
Write your senators. Make it clear how you feel. As un-elected members of the populace, that's really all we can do. Well, besides joining the NRA (or recruiting other gun owners). It is really pretty shameful that 75 of the 80 million gun owers in this country are willing to stand idly by and do nothing while the dudley dorights of the PC movement decide whether we should continue to have the most important of all the Contitutionally guaranteed rights. If you don't write anybody, sign up some friends with the NRA. Imagine how their lobby would be viewed if it represented 80 million adult voters!
I think i agree that the Senate (up there in the Holy City) no longer cares WHAT the voters care about. That's for the House to worry about, don't you know, while the Senate transacts the REAL business of this country. The Senate - well they walk on water don't they - always know what's best for other people, exactly how we should live our lives, pay our taxes, how to fix the Economy, how to win a war, (well, maybe not that). You name it, they know how to fix it better than you. Gorwing up, we had a word for people like that. Now we send them to DC and pay them 175k per year to take corporate junkets, fact-finding trips to Honolulu, and stuff their war chests with millions of dollars in bribes, i mean contributions.
So, what to do? Be an American. Vote your mind and your principals. Advise your elected representatives what you think even if you don't believe they're listening. Vote them out of office next time around if they don't listen. Trust that our government, as screwed up as it is, is still the best one going. Be even more of an activist on the local and state level, where you have a better chance of being heard.
Oh and... brush up on that Karate you took as a kid. It could be your only means of self defense after this administration is through.
