The fact is it is broke. What about all the people who can't buy health insurance because they are not healthy enough. But they don't qualify for medicade. Ask your health insurance company if they care. They don't thats why it is broke and why we got to have a plan for all.

As far as Obama goes on the national debt. lets argue about that in 7 years. All we have now is how much of a debt Bush left us.

First of all thank you for a nice reply and for not getting all bent about this. I enjoy talking rationally about things. SOme of the other people should take your resonse as an example. Anyways,

For one you cut the wasteful spending to stuff thats so not important. And that goes for both sides dem & rep. Ask your insurance company if they would cover you if you had a heart attack or cancer. Unless you have group insurance the answer is no. Thats why we got to have something. THis is america ya'll we pick up our soldier's in the battlefield even if it means risking our life. We got to help the unisured/uninsurable.

We have some of the best drs in the world because we have the best opportunity in education and are the most technologicallly advanced. Not because they want to pay more. We got to reach out to the uninsured and these small business owners who pay out the wazoooo for health insurance. You cann't have a health system that wants to profit. That doesn't make since to me.

There are state run and charity hospitals that care for those who don't have the means to pay. It is also against the law to refuse ANYONE emergency care based on capability to pay. The problem with cuts is that education is usually hard hit during these and it's already been cut to the bone. Another area for cuts would be defense. With current worldwide events do you really want to cut that? Who do you think is going to pay the trillion (yes trillion) dollars for the proposed health care program? And that's just to get it started. Then there's the abuse of the system. Even now go sit in an emergency room and see how many are there with sniffles and get upset when a trauma patient is taken ahead of them.

Massachusetts is bankrupt from their Mandated Universal Health Care System...

The Unconstitutional Federal Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act (42 U.S.C. § 1395dd, EMTALA) is a United States Act of Congress passed in 1986 as part of the Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act. It requires hospitals and ambulance services to provide care to anyone needing emergency treatment regardless of citizenship, legal status or ability to pay. There are no reimbursement provisions. (in others words we get a unspecified open ended bill) As a result of the act, patients needing emergency treatment can be discharged only under their own informed consent or when their condition requires transfer to a hospital better equipped to administer the treatment.

I'm well versed on the states rights issue, however, this law mandating care is only for those facilities accepting payments from the Department of Health and Human Services, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. I agree that the federal government needs to stay out of the universal health care proposal and leave it to the states. When you start accepting money from the government though you grant them some control.

Sometimes being in Southeast Michigan does have a little blessing from time to time. We have good access to the Canadian News on CBC. On any given night you can listen to a report on how bad the Canadian Health Care system is failing. There are many Canadians that travel thru Detroit from Windsor or Port Huron from Sarnia to see an American Doctor. I have a cousin in Harrow, Ontario. He never stops complaining... Their taxes are very close to 50% of his income. Is that what you want for us here? This BMHO propsal is poor at best. It will lead to abuse and exorbitant fees. Let alone what it will cost us and our grandkids in taxes.
