You may not need it but Luke does. As he explained he is tired of policing this forum by himself and he shouldn't have too.
I know lots of forums use a thumbs-up/thumbs-down, like/hate, helpful/not-helpful feedback system, but I'd appreciate the ability to defeat notification when feedback on my posts are left. It's competing with the PM notification, so I can't not click on it to clear the notification if I ever want to be notified about PMs again.
And frankly, I don't care if someone found a given post of mine helpful or not, if they liked it or not. The meaning of clicking on those red and green thumbs is going to be completely lost. If someone found the post helpful, but dislikes the poster personally, they'll click unhelpful. If someone found it unhelpful, but likes the person's politics (or religion), they'll click helpful anyway.
If I did care about my own feedback, I can always revisit that post and get that feedback like everyone else at the bottom on the post. I just don't need the active feedback in the masthead of every page I view.

Sorry Cathy, I thought you were talking about the red and green thumbs being helpful or not. I didn't realize the notifications stacking up under private messages. I like the ability to rate a post on it's merit, but your right about the notifications. And thanks Luke for clarifying that.![]()
I am not a fan of this new system. If it does give some people a feeling of empowerment, then so it be. I have noticed that many of my postings were really hit hard in the no column. I think it is a personal thing, not based on the content of my posting. That is fine.
If it means anything Cathy, I gave your posting a plus.
I kind of like the rating system. True any system can be abused just as any conversation can be quickly reduced to bickering. I have rated some posts, by far with positive feedback. The very few I rated negatively was because it either added nothing to the thread or was a snide posting. I even gave positive ratings to some who may be surprised.
Like you Ron, I too like the new system. The one's that will abuse it, are the same one's that would abuse a post anyway, but at least Luke can see what topics are doing well or not. Example: A topic on correct stance or grip to correct low or left shooting could get a lot of plus ratings if it were helpful, while at the same time if someone chimed in with something not related to this you could give it a thumbs down for not being helpful to that post.![]()
