Default What kind of site do you want USA Carry forums to become?

I realize that this is Luke's sandbox and he can do as he pleases but I thought he might appreciate some unsolicited advice from the peasants. :)

Generally speaking there are two different directions that gun sites go. They either go the family and female friendly direction (e.g. The High Road) or they go the way of the testosterone filled 'shoot them all and let God sort them out' direction (e.g. AR15.com).

What would you like to see in USA Carry?

I would say keep it as family and female friendly. Too much testosterone and a CCW do not mix well in my book.

The High Road is a good technical site, but it sure is boring. I love AR15.com:) I hope this site replaces the late packing.org. It had great state by state info, but it was rarely updated and the forums sucked.

I'd like to see it become another Packing.org minus the rating system. Also, unlike PDO, I'd like to see the info being kept up to date. Finally, all trolls should have their posts deleted.

    Question USA Carry Feature

I'd like to see a feature similar to one the recently departed Packing.org had: a tool to input the expiration date of CCW permits with an automatic e-mail reminder about a month before expiration.

I'd like to see the site be 180 degrees different than packing.org. Many of the people there didn't know what they were talking about or were just too full of themselves to carry on a decent conversation. I don't think I ever posted there and quit even reading it a long time ago.

I'd like to see the site be like Glocktalk used to be. A group of people with a common mindset that come together to talk about their training, what they've seen that can improve your shooting skills, etc. while still being a great group of friends.

    Default Packing.org

I'm not saying I want this site to be like packing.org. But I would like that one feature -- if you don't like it, don't use it.

I wasn't talking to you- just to the general comments that keep bringing up the, thankfully, former packing.org site.

To avoid the worst in a forum like the PDO rating system that drove away the best in the way of discussion and wisest of contributors ; this site will require a choir loft. As in RKBA oriented moderators from every available board online now and every possible occupation involving them. LEO and Gunsmiths and shop owners.
The rules as they evolve will have to be strictly enforced. As said earlier this is Luke's court and his balls. Bats and gloves are his as well if that is your sport.

Leaving the threads to age from last post is much better than rolling down to be lost forever.

Relavent material on subjects you know and understand is most helpful. Everything else in the fight for freedom is noise.

    An example of noise.

I don't think I ever even accidentally landed on PDO. By the time I knew what it was, people were talking on other forums about it having gone the way of the buffalo. So nothing I say here is influenced at all by that site.

The renewal-of-your-CCW-reminder-email feature is something I would really love to see. Seems at least as useful as the recipricol map feature. That's not a knock on the map, that's a great idea too, but there are many years when I don't leave my home state and so have no use for it, but I do have to renew my permit every year.

I would hope that this forum will develop into a great resource for finding good deals on everything from guns to accessories to ammo. Yes, other sites are doing that too, but you can never have too many resources for finding deals.

I hope that anyone who claims to support 2nd Amendment issues, but always talks in favor of registration, restrictions on accessibility to, and/or the carrying of, firearms will not be welcomed here with open arms. Of course I believe in free speech, but I don't come to gun sites to debate the finer points of The Constitution or the 2nd Amendment. For the most part, the folks who frequent sites like this don't try to stir the puddin' about gun control or whatever, but I for one, don't suffer fools well at all and have no desire to shrug my shoulders and ignore the small minority of anti-gunners that might show up from time to time. I come for like-minded banter, not pontificating ignoramuses working in concert with gun-grabbing (and mostly far left liberal) politicians who wish to make my ability to defend myself from criminals a crime. I'm not telling the owner(s?) of this site how to run it, only what environment will hold my interest.

Other than those few things, I'm perfectly willing to let it grow and develop naturally. Seems to me to have a pretty darn good start at becoming a highly informative, easy-going, fun place to discuss all things firearms related.
