I had an excellent experience with online renewal in SC. I renewed at 89 days before expiration and had the new one in 2 weeks. DO NOT try to renew before the 90 days.

FINALLY CAME TODAY!
Well it took from 3/15 to 5/10.
Don't let it expire like me... Renew early between 60 and 90 days before expiration!
Another vote for online. easy and it comes in a couple of weeks.
I did online and it took almost 60 days! The trick is to do it 90 days early as you are allowed.
