Default CWP carry in vehicle briefcase

Can a CWP holder in SC legally carry a handgun in a fastened bag (like a Maxpedition) or briefcase in the front passenger seat or back seat?

I'm from NC but travel to SC to Myrtle Beach alot. I would think CCP is concealed carry and you can conceale it as much as you want. I just always notify LEOs immediatly. NC and SC have reciprocating agreements...so the comments to this will be interesting.

If you have a CWP and you have it in an enclosed case, bag, box or whatever and not on your person, you Sir are a dumbass. If my comments offend, sort I'm all out of Kleenex

    From SC gun laws:

It is unlawful to carry about the person a handgun concealed or
    unconcealed except as follows:
    (snip)
Any person in a vehicle where the handgun is secured in a closed glove
compartment, closed console or closed trunk. The handgun may be
    loaded.

The law is specific: closed glove compartment, closed console, or closed trunk. I don't think a judge will see "fastened bag" in the text of the law.

Find a donut shop, find a cop, buy him a cup of coffee and a donut, and ask him/her, OR, ask the folks that gave you your training for the CCW permit. I think as long as you have a CCW permit you should be ok, but I am not a lawyer.

Why ask LEO for legal advice? That's like asking the Jiffy Lube vacuuming and window washing specialist to overhaul your NASCAR racing engine.

I would look up the laws on vehicle carry. Most have no restrictions on a cwp holder. Look up if you have mandatory notification a well. Follow the law, if you want to volunteer to notify that is fine, I won't unless I have to by law.

I too am looking at the Maxpedition bags, just don't have the money right now.

Ignore the trolls. Have a good day. :-)
