I have attached a quote from the Tennessee Code Annotated that uses the word "shall", one of the most used words in the writing of legislation. I think that if the subject of the "shall" is not carried out as state somebody needs to get a pink slip as they would in the private sector. ------------------

    TCA 39-17-1351
    (l) The department shall issue a permit to an applicant not prohibited from obtaining a permit under this section no later than ninety (90) days after the date the department receives the application. A permit issued prior to the department's receipt of the Tennessee and federal bureaus of investigation's criminal history record checks based upon the applicant's fingerprints shall be subject to immediate revocation if either record check reveals that the applicant is not eligible for a permit pursuant to the provisions of this section

My permit showed up on the 90th day, 2 days from post mark date and 2 months past issue date. So they kept up the tradition of ripping me off for the time it was laying on someones desk while they were drinking coffee.

I sent my renewal in in February and got a letter in March stating this letter will act as your permit until it arrives. Now we are in April and I still Have not received my renewal permit yet. This is the first time it has taken this long for me. Usually I get is back in a few weeks, they may be dragging their feet to see if Obama is going to outlaw guns for us.

I know how frustrating it can be to want something and have to wait for it. Especially to have to wait for it for what seems an unreasonably long time, and also for an unreasonably stupid reason. Fortunately, my dealings with Lisa Knight were nothing but pleasant, and even with the problems that surfaced with my process, I received my permit in 31 days from printing to mailbox. I DO KNOW that in November the TDOS switched over to a new computer system which has sped up approvals for people with NO criminal history. Unfortunately even if your history is nothing but a bad check it will kick you out as a non approved and the personnel have to physically go through your records and that takes longer. Not saying this was what happened in your case, just general information for all. Hopefully the new system will speed up approvals for all. As for the many who have been approved that I am aware of since the computer change their times from printing to issue date have been drastically shorter. There will always be exceptions. But for the most part things HAVE gotten better.

Well mine finally arrived it was right at the 90 day mark. I have never had to wait this long before not even on my original permit request. This was my third renewal of my permit, not sure what the hold up was nothing has changed in my background to warrant an extra look at my renewal.

Well there is not a 90 day limit on renewals, only new permits. So processing new permits usually gets priority over renewals.

...and besides you can stil carry with your expired permit as long as you have the reciept that shows you applied for renewal before the expiration date.

Hmmm, early in 2009 (January) I applied and received my permit after about 8 weeks or so. No problems.
    Reality, DEAL with IT!
