I feel part of the problem are the parents/lack of discipline. Many kids today feel that if they are disciplined (spanked, grounded, privileges removed etc) that they threaten the parents with calling child protective services. I told my kids if they ever felt like doing that, that i would "let them use my phone, here, let me dial 911 for you". Many kids today feel they are untouchable, Why? maybe lack of structure/ discipline. Yes, these "kids" were 17 and 18 years old, but I dont think their thinking like this happened overnight. Maybe they will be charged as adults. Something like this should of never happened. I am sure that these "kids" are "angels" (COUGH, COUGH) and didnt really mean it.

At least some witnesses trailed the rowdy fellows to help the police grab them. It says they were booked on ag assault; I bet they were bailed the same day.

swsd40 is right...kids these days are not expected to take any responsibility for their actions. I am always amazed by how many of my kids' friends don't even have chores to do!! My kids do chores, they speak respectfully or they get their mouths washed out with soap, and they know if I get a note home from a teacher saying they have misbehaved that I will take the teacher's side. Too often these days it's all about not squashing the little darlings' self esteem. A little squashing never hurt anyone - they need to know they are NOT the center of the universe!

Your right RDM6680, some teenagers are no different. But some parents are either afraid or do not know how to enforce discipline and teach respect for and toward others. Like I said, I feel that is part of the problem.

It seems worse, because of a few factors:

1) There are always a few REALLY troubled teens who do absolutely shocking and horrifying things.

2) Before about 1990, these disturbing things didn't get past local news. Authorities would keep things quiet out of respect for both the parents of the teen, and out of respect for the victims of the crime.

3) Since 1990 and the advent of the internet...news travels MUCH faster, and with less screening and editing. I learned about my somewhat estranged oldest daughter's pregnancy and engagement on Facebook. My wife learned about the passing of her grandmother, 700 miles away on Facebook less than 2 hours after it happened.

4) Fast and shocking = great ratings, so news agencies are moving the most horrifying stuff to the top. While these occurrences are statistically rare, they seem much more common when you're eating a steady diet of "a horror a day."

So are you claiming that the past generations of America's youth also used to verbally and physically assault; teachers, school bus drivers, police officers, senior citizens, etc...Like they are doing nowadays?
Are you claiming that Gangster Rap is 'no worse' than 50's era Rock & Roll? snoop dogs music is no worse than Chuck Berrys? eminems music is no worse than Elvis Presleys?

Too many of our (Libtarded) Educators & so called 'parents' have taught America's youth that 'it's good' to not believe in a Higher Power (God), America is bad country, white people are racists, abortion is a good 'choice', pre-marital sex is cool, mutliple sex partners is awesome, we have all evolved from apes, etc...
Then everybody wonders why so many of todays youths act like irrational animals with no moral compass.
We as a nation have reaped what we have allowed to be sown folks.
And it's not going to be all peaches and cream when the fit hits the shan i.m.h.o.
