my wife want to start traveling next year and have rifles and shotguns but thought a pistol might be wise i was informed though that some states do not allow you to transport pistols through thier states is this true and what states.

NY.

In order to legally possess a handgun in NY, you need a handgun license. Only NY residents can apply for a handgun license.
The FOPA protects you if are traveling through NY. But, you can not make any extended stops, stops for gas/food are okay.

Handgun(s) need to be transported unloaded and in a locked container.
