Default UT Senate Bill 227 meddles with Concealed Weapons Permit fees

Senate Bill 227, by chronically anti-gun Sen. Scott McCoy, meddles
with Concealed Weapons Permit fees. It would make a large
increase in non-resident permit application and renewal fees.
This bill RAISES Utah Resident permit fees even though the initial
cost is reduced slightly, but raising renewals.
What they don’t tell you is that at the end of 2008 the state had
a SURPLUS of $261,814 in the account for processing permits!

They do NOT need more money to do their job.

There are some clever word changes hidden in the bill that
turns permit fees into a slush fund for the Utah Highway Patrol.

This bill is on the agenda for Senate Judiciary, Law Enforcement,
and Criminal Justice Committee – TOMORROW- Wednesday,
25 February 2009, at 4:10 PM in Senate room 250.

ACTION REQUIRED

ASK the Committee members to VOTE AGAINST SB 227
(Concealed Firearm Permit Fees Amendments)
Please email, fax or call IMMEDIATELY, or before 3:00 PM
on Wednesday because they will be meeting tomorrow afternoon!

Use the following message. (Contact info follows the sample email)
Senate FAX number for all members is (801) 326-1475

SAMPLE EMAIL OR FAX MESSAGE
Subject: Vote AGAINST SB 227 (Concealed Firearm Permit fee amendments)

Dear Senator ___________
I am asking you to vote AGAINST SB 227 (Concealed Firearm
Permit Fees Amendments).

BCI is sitting on a SURPLUS of $261,814 in the permit
fee account, so they do not need any increase in fees.

Raising Utah resident fees is a sneaky smokescreen where
the initial fee is lowered, but the renewal is raised.
There is no need to increase non-resident fees either.

Permit fees should not be turned into a cash cow for
other state programs, and this funding should only
support permit costs.

Sincerely.
