VCDL MEMBER ON THE COVER OF CONCEALED CARRY MAGAZINE
Before talking about the Virginia Pilot's 4 part series on guns, I
wanted to mention that VCDL member Bill Mixon from Hampton is on the
cover of the January 2008 issue of Concealed Carry magazine, wearing
his VCDL t-shirt!
Bill is a member of the Lafayette Gun Club in Grafton.
This article mentioned the laughter by some during the lie-in on Lobby
Day. Too bad that the reporter didn't hear the full tape of the lie-
in that is posted online or she would have mentioned that the laughter
was at the horrendous, and inappropriate, singing of "We shall
overcome" by one of the lie-in participants. And let's also not lose
sight of that fact that lie-in was in reality a gun-control rally
designed as a spectacle and intended to advance their gun control
agenda. It was NOT a wake or memorial service.
Colin Goddard, who was wounded by Cho, is quoted as saying to Jeff
Knox, when Jeff suggested that college students with permits be
allowed to carry on campus, "'You're afraid,' Goddard said quietly. 'I
feel sorry for you. I can't continue my life afraid of things.'"
Contrary to what he said, Colin is CLEARLY afraid of law-abiding
citizens carrying guns at a college or university. He missed the
whole point of the horror that happened to him.
And there is this statement from the end of that article:
"In the meantime, in Virginia, a firearm can be purchased with less
oversight than a used car."
"Virginia Citizens Defense League
The loudest of all Virginia gun groups, this organization got its
start in 1994 as the Northern Virginia Citizens Defense League. Now
with around 3,800 members, the VCDL usually works in lockstep with the NRA. Its Web site offers a list of 'gun friendly' lawyers and a list
of 'gun unfriendly' businesses for its members to avoid."
From reading that "lock-step" statement, it would sound like VCDL and
the NRA are almost one and the same. That is most definitely NOT the
case. VCDL does NOT take orders from the NRA, nor does the NRA take
orders from VCDL (darn!). BUT we have been working together much more
closely the last few years and the results have been excellent for
Virginia's gun owners.
Left out of the milestones was mention that gun control's roots were
based in racism. Prior to the Civil War, gun control was primarily
focused on controlling slaves. After the Civil War, while gun control
laws supposedly affected everyone, they were really only enforced on
the newly freed slaves and immigrants. It wasn't until the mid/late
20th Century that gun control laws were applied to whites. Sssshhhh!
Antis don't want to talk about that inconvenient fact.
