House Democrats to Offer Amendment Punishing States with Self Defense Laws

House Democrats said Tuesday they will offer an amendment to push to overturn stand-your-ground self-defense laws in states like Florida.

The amendment, which would withhold some grants from states that have such laws, will come as part of the House’s debate on the Commerce Department spending bill.

Yet another reason to vote Obama out.   I just wish somebody stronger than Romney was running because I don’t trust him either.   I’m so fed up with all of them to be honest.   I hate politicians and lawyers as both are constantly trying to harm us.  This is why I liked Ron Paul because he wants little to no government at all!   The people should be the government.

The people ARE the government. Too bad most forget that, until an issue affects them directly.

Ron Paul is the most honest in the primaries. He is truly for the people. Just one correction to your statement. It’s not that he is for “…no government.”. He is for SMALL government. There are places our money (which is really worth almost nothing because the FED keeps printing more) is being spent where it is doing no good. He wants to cut those programs. Some of them I don’t agree with but no one is %100 right all the time. He has the right idea. Romney is a SNAKE. Unfortunately even if Ron Paul were to win the republican nomination He would 1) Probably not beat out Obama 2)There are plenty who oppose him in Washington and probably would just plain not cooperate with him. In a perfect world there would be nothing but people like Ron Paul in Washington.

“This is no different than withholding transportation funds from states that don’t enforce seat-belt laws.”

Not a good reference in my book. They are correct in that it is no different than withholding transportation funds for not enforcing seat-belt laws, however, I do not believe they have the right to enforce seat-belt laws, let alone my right to defend myself from some thug.

Further proof of the Demoncrats desire to take your guns.

Typical Democrats, If they would do there home work they would find that the majority of the People shot in florida in Self Defence situations were criminals, just says the stand You Ground Law is working in my Opinion.

The question here is, how many of us are just going to gripe about this here, but not contact our representative to urge them to vote against this violation of States’ Rights.  I have contacted my representative.  First, the two representatives quoted in the article failed to specify how many of these shootings turned out to be mis-identified innocents; I’m betting that number is a fraction of total self-defense shootings.  Then there is the information published in a Newsweek article (which is typically virulently anti-gun) which stated that law-abiding American
citizens using guns in self-defense during 2003 shot and killed two and one-
half times as many criminals as police did, and with fewer than one-fifth as
many incidents as police where an innocent person mistakenly identified as a
criminal (2% versus 11%).  So police – the guys that have supposedly been trained to avoid such things – are more than five times more likely to shoot and kill an innocent person than a civilian.

Don’t just gripe about this – put the pressure on your representatives to vote against this cluster foul-up!  The defense against bad information is GOOD information!

In Texas, we’d rather have our Castle Law.  To hell with your threats of withholding grant funds!  Unless of course you are willing to use those funds to assign an armed bodyguard to every resident in Texas!!!

Hey I posted that image months ago!   LOL!   I’m just kidding.   It belongs to all of us and I’m glad to see others using it as well.   Way to go man!  2nd Amendment forever.

  • ezkl2230

Amendment has been withdrawn — for now.  “Rep. Keith Ellison, Minnesota Democrat, said he will still try to force a debate at a more “appropriate” time in the future, saying action is demanded by the case of Trayvon Martin, the Florida teenager who police said was shot dead in a street encounter with a neighborhood watch volunteer.”

One case that hasn’t even been decided yet demands that the entire country change its laws? Now is the time to work on educating our representatives – that is to say, to increase the pressure on them to keep this from coming to a vote in the first place.

Are these people out of control or what? When are the states going to stop allowing the federal govt to stop blackmailing them? When will it stop?

    • ezkl2230

When are we going to stop re-electing the same kinds of legislators that have perpetuated this mess?  They may be out of control, but someone continues to re-elect them!

this maybe on or off topic depending on how you read it.. but here goes,,, i am all for stand your ground and castle doctrine,,, everyone states how this zimmerman case is about how the stand your ground law is at the forfront of this…. from what i have read on this case and by zimmermans own statements ,,,,, he was in the wrong and should in fact be charged with a gun crime…. first from what ive read he calls 911 ,, the dispatcher tells him hes not to pursue this kid,,, strike one against him.. second ,, it was also my understanding he was not officially a nieghborhood watch … strike two.. and third he aproached or tried to detain … strike 3 and it ended up with him using lethal force…….. fact is everything goes back to the fact he persued this kid after being instructed to not follow this kid….. as far as im concearned a kid was killed,,, we will never know whether he was innocent or not as the kid is dead,,,, but to use lethal force in an inceident where you the gun owner was the persuer has nothing to do with stand your grand as that situation was never and issue… and since there was no domicile involved , castle doesnt either…. this is a situation where a person decided to make a bad choice and unfortunately a person was killed…. but zimmerman made the bad choice and should pay for his error in judgement… this has nothing to do with stand your ground or castle ,, its a situation of bad choices and judgemnent on his part……… and punishing states that have stand your ground or castle by the us government is bs, the second amendment guarantees our rights to defend ourselves , however it doesnt allow us the right to do what the individual in florida did… amazing how the anti gun people automatically make every bad choice by a  person with a gun about the second amendment or that guns are the culprit…

Wow, because the constitutional definitely gives this power to congress, ugh.

Do you have to fail your 6th grade civics class to become a politician?

only when 1 of these poor excuses for honest people gets in a jam, and is saved by a concealled carry person, will they realize they are the ones doing more harm than good. Wasting taxpayers money to make the nonpayer, have an easier time to loot honest people.
