100,000 Concealed Carry Permits in Six Months for Wisconsin

In just under six months from when Wisconsin’s concealed carry law went into affect they have approved and printed 100,000 concealed carry permits. They has estimated that within a year they would have printed 125,000 permits. They get hundreds of new applications everyday so I don’t see them having any problem meeting that goal. Here’s a video of Attorney General Van Hollen discussing the DOJ printing the 100,000 permit.

Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen Praises Department of Justice Employees as DOJ Prints 100,000th Concealed Carry License

Friday, April 20, 2012

“This is good news for Second Amendment advocates and our ability to deliver on another public service at the Department. I’m incredibly proud of the dedicated staff at the Department of Justice. Throughout the implementation of the concealed carry law, employees were willing to adjust and go above and beyond to help us reach this point,” Attorney General Van Hollen said.

MADISON — Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen addressed members of the media from the secure license processing area of the Department of Justice (DOJ) headquarters in Madison as the Department marked a milestone this morning – the printing of the 100,000th Concealed Carry License — fewer than six months after 2011 Wisconsin Act 35 took effect.

The DOJ has received nearly 111,000 concealed carry applications since the law took effect November 1, 2011. Wisconsin’s handgun hotline, staffed by employees of the Crime Information Bureau of the DOJ’s Division of Law Enforcement Services, handled a record 88,895 calls in 2011. To date, February 2012 set the record for the highest number of calls to the hotline within a single month at 15,842. All registered firearm dealers are required to call the Handgun Hotline before transferring a handgun. Let’s hear it for Wisconsin!   If they can do it so can the other states.

Lorin

Wisconsin has been doing this for only six months and they already have a better license then California does. We go through the process here, and we get, literally, a piece of signed paper with our thumbprint on it. It falls apart in a week. Ah California, why do I stay?

Being frm Wisconsin and waiting for this as long as we have, I wasn’t the least bit surprised by this. I have my CCW Permit, and haven’t had to pull any of my weapons for any reason, and I hope I never have to…but it’s nice to know I’ll ave them if I ever need them. TGFSW…and JB Van Hollen!

To Lorin. Actually they are really nice here in WI. I was expecting to get, like you have in CA,, a piece of flimsy paper. But its actually a “nice” durable piece of plastic, like a credit card. I was impressed 🙂 I also thought I would have to wait “forever” to get mine because of the amount of people applying. But I got mine in 3 weeks, which also impressed me. A nice round of applause to the WI Deparment of Justice. They are doing a fine stand up job, especially considering the amount of applications they receive every day.

Well, I’m retired law enforcement and sitting here in stupid California.   I ask myself every day why.   Kids are grown and out on their own.   I’m single again (finally!) and looking for another State to move to now.    Wisconsin is now on the list along with Nevada and Arizona.
