By your own admission you are addicted maybe you should give up CPL and your guns until you are sober for awhile. By federal law you are denied ownership of guns. Do you actually think that if you smoked pot or had a full load of pain Meds and you encountered LEO it would go good?

You're in a bad spot. I know a person who's also disabled permanently by pain. (Failed L4-L5 fusion)

When I met her, she was on the Fentanyl patch, Oxycontin, Fentanyl sticks for breakthrough, Adderal for somnolence, etc. It's a rough road, and I obviously can't say your situation is similar enough for it to work, but she got herself away from the opioids. She stopped using the patches first, then reduced and eliminated the oxycontin, then weaned off the pain sticks, all while getting onto an SNRI - Wellbutrin does a pretty good job without lethargy and weight gain. There's another SNRI that's actually labelled for pain now... can't remember the name of it. Doxepin is probably the top of the heap for pain management in that class of drugs, but somnolence and weight gain are a given.

She's been opioid free for years now, and although she has pain every day, she can cope with it, laying down with a heat pack when it gets to its worst state. Over time, even that's gotten less frequent. She wouldn't go back to the opioids at this point if you paid her.

I hope this post helps you. People don't understand about pain killers. Who could expect them to? Even when you explain things, it doesn't have the kind of impact that the constant "drugs are bad" message from the media has. Maybe someday marijuana will be more accepted as a pain med, but until then DO WHAT WORKS. It's kinda like self-defense, really. You save your own life even if it's going to end up in the courts.

I am in the same boat. I have degen arthritis l4 l5 s1, osteo & Rheum, gout in both feet as well. Even though I don't need 1(in AZ) I have my CCL for almost 10 yrs. I talked with my Rheumetologist who wanted me on stronger doses, but since I carry every day, I made a choice (& he agrees with my decision) to be in more pain with less meds so I can have a 100% clear head to carry. I was on Fentenyl patches a long time ago ($400/mo) - stopped that. I now take a measly 10mg methadone 3x/day & 2 others for gout & muscle cramping. Legally, in most states, it isn't exactly defined what describes a person to be unfit to carry. I just imagined, me in court with a jury, could I prove to myself & them that I acted responsibly & had the clear faculties to do so? My answer is yes, since the small dose barely allows me to get around but leaves me with a clear head. Good luck.

  9. I tried to delete this post as I realized this would not get a good discussion. I had some questions but will seek advice from another source. I was trying to bring some humor to a serious issue and this is not the place. Please delete this.

Drugs/controlled substances have no place with firearms. Legal or not you give creedance for no LEO or any other firearms owner, instructor, or anyone else to trust your judgement when you self medicate....

I have two failed back surgeries. I chose pain and a clear mind over controlled subtances.

Having a proper diet and moderate execise have done more good for me than any medical trearment ever has

Hear that! My knees are shredded, yet I powered through it and added muscle to keep them from degenerating any further. A clear mind is always best and any man can put the pain aside and find a way to keep the world turning. I find that exercise is always the best medicine!
