Thread: Concealed Carry Vest ???

  1. Concealed Carry Vest ???

Anyone have any experience with using a ccw vest if so what brands have you had luck using ??? I have recently purchased a Kakadu Traders Gunnworn-Delta ccw vest and I love it but I am always looking for other options. As a side note I'm staying away from anything 5.11 related I'm not a fan of their company to say the least.

Banana Republic used to sell a great photo journalist vest, don't know if they still do or not...

But as a side note, what dirty puppy thing did 5.11 do??

  4. I've actually used a number of them, both vests with internal carry and as a means of concealing an IWB AND OWB holsters. The Kakadu vest and another one (sorry, can't remember who made it... I'll try to find out and post) were the only ones I've looked for internal carry. The 5.11 vest, and similar others, were made of too light of a material to carry anything larger than a subcompact polymer-framed 9mm or smaller without noticeable sagging so I normally used them as cover for IWB or OWB carry and as sort of wearable SHTF bags. The Kakadu vest and the oilskin vest were fantastic for "internal" carry but, unfortunately, they have some problems of their own. The Kakadu's upper pockets are practically useless and I'm not too thrilled by the durability of the sown-in elastic holsters. I wore out the holster in my first vest just practicing and getting used to the draw. The oilclothe vest is holding up really well but has almost no pockets compared to the others. Every single vest I've tried has had major disadvantage one way or the other and I've personally given up using them for anything more than for concealing an IWB or OWB holsters. THAT they do very well and the added "cargo capacity" pretty much sticking to the 5.11-style "cargo" vests

  5. My oilclothe vest is the holster vest from Concealed Carry Outfitters

Which Kakadu vest do you have I have the Delta model with 18 pockets total and I find it very useful but I'm always looking elsewhere for other good ideas.

I too have worn the Kakadu vest. I don't wear if often but have had no problems with it EXCEPT they have the single most irritating tag I've ever had the misfortune of encountering. I cut it out leaving a gaping hole where it was but since no one can see it I'm good to go. Tag was attached with very irritating nylon thread.

It didn't do anything to me its just 5.11 doesn't use good concealment materials aka to thin and prints fairly easy.

I have been looking at the Packin Tees and conceal carry holster shirts. I think these would work best for me rather than the vests. The website is www.tacticalgear.com/consealed carry shirts. Some of them are by 5.11 but there are some by Blackhawk. Just check them out before passing judgement.

  11. I'm not a fan of the shirt holster system cause you would basically either have to wear a button up shirt with them or if you wear a regular tee shirt over it you have to pull your shirt up over your head damn near to access your weapon. But to each his own eh.
