Thread: Morons like this don't help us responsible CC citizens.

"What a maroon!" as Bugs Bunny used to say. I don't know if the fellow in the OP fits into the category of a moron or not but gun owners need to realize that there is a lot of morons out there totin' guns waiting to use them as the slightest chance. When one of these idiots does something to reflect on all gun owners we cannot sweep it under the rug and try to separate them from the rest of the gun owners by making excuses or trying to justify their actions through arguements about technicalities of the law.

The case that kelcarry mentioned is a prime example of stupid actions on both parties. One brandished his gun. I am not going to argue legal terms here, the other went back to his truck, retrieved his gun and shot the one who brandished his gun. As far as I know both were legally carrying their guns but it really doesn't matter. No matter what kind of justification or excuses we want to use for their actions they were still morons and now one is dead and one awaiting trial.

Idiots and morons have rights and the same as anyone else and we must recognize that. Rather than sticking our heads in the sand and denying it when the antis point it out we have to find solutions. I don't have one but I am sure some of you do so how do we stop the idiots and morons from killing each other over a five dollar football bet.

Further to my comment and agreeing with Desert, when you are CC you are a wuss---a dangerous wuss who can kill someone with their firearm that is CC but you are a wuss--period/end of story. You beg foregiveness, you retreat if you can, you yell and scream and can cry mama if you want so that witnesses will see you are not trying to provoke but actually trying to minimize the interraction. If after doing all those things, if they are possible, and a threat is still possible, it is now "miller time" you act (ie-your firearm) and when you act it is the last and final resort at your disposal because any further delay will, in your mind, (presumption of imminent danger of death or great bodily injury) cause your possible death or serious injury. The quick chain of events and dynamics are easy to write about and I can see them clearly in my mind, but I surely hope they never appear before me--I am not so sure my actions will follow such a clear and unmistakeable and, IMO, legally correct course, but I know that I will use situational awareness as my first course and being a complete wuss as my second course with lots of yelling and screaming for witnesses---I will always be looking at the jerk and looking at his hands and thinking about his demeanor and having myself in a position (distance from the jerk) where I can defend myself.

You are absolutely INCORRECT here, and a VERY dangerous loose cannon.... I hope you never get in a situation that you do have to unholster....., because you may very well be up on MURDER charges.....

Your "training" AND thinking is very wrong... Once you unholster, the threat may very well stop, and the life threatening may be over... but YOU HAVE TRAINED AND HAVE THE MINDSET THAT YOU WILL SHOOT ANYWAY, even if the the bad guy backs down (you left yourself absolutely NO choice other than fire it once you pull it out, and keep arguing that is the only way it can be done without breaking some idiotic "law")....... I dont know how much clearer that can be, yet you keep insisting it is the right thing to do...... In that part, you are 100% WRONG!!! Sure, dont pull it out unless you INTEND/NEED to use it.... but, if the threat ends BEFORE you pull the trigger (yet AFTER you unholster), and you shoot anyway, you are NOT in the right, period....If there is a witness, you are definitely in a world of hurt....

Giving out CRAP advice like YOU are doing is worse for "our cause" than what the person who was the subject of the OP did..........

PC is trying to convince someone it's possible to pick up a turd by the clean end. A rose by any other name will still wither and die.

You really do have problems, please do not take your gun out of your home because you are a dangerous person to be owning a gun. If you think running around pointing a gun at people is okay, you belong in jail. Im done with your ignorance and promoting breaking laws.
You should not be in possession of a gun. Only criminals point guns at people to get what they want. The rest of us will keep our guns holstered until we have to use them.

I don't usually jump into these mud-slinging arguments, but here's my 2 cents.

Amazingly, I agree with Axeanda45. I always considered the act of un-holstering my weapon as "using it". That doesn't mean that I have to fire it. However, I would not draw my weapon unless it was warranted and I was prepared to use it, and I was was justified in doing so. I personally don't want to kill anyone again.

When I was a LEO, I had 2 rules that followed at all times.

Rule #1 - Do not die while on duty.
Rule #2 - Do not kill while on duty. However, when in doubt, refer to Rule #1.

If I can protect myself from death or bodily harm by drawing my weapon but not firing it, I will do so.

All I am saying is, keep yourself at a higher standard. Ed H is a democrat, he seems to be a pretty good guy...I would not think of him as part of an organization committed to destroying this Republic. So in that case, the shoe does not fit. I do not buy into political correctness, I do buy into kindness though. When I make a mistake, I respect the one who approaches me and corrects me kindly and sternly. I resent the one who name calls with nothing better to teach.

  9. Lakeland, You are correct. Many assaults have been interrupted by the victim merely drawing his weapon and not even firing a shot and never being reported. I personally know of one situation where the victim was about to be assaulted as he sat in his vehicle and pointed a weapon and the assailant scurried back to his hole.

Our friend DesertEagle may want to reconsider such non-sence and engage into some critical thinking. I would prefer stopping the threat and not pulling the tigger as most of us here would.

Even here in Idaho where just about anybody can get a CCW or purchase a gun without a waiting period, it is required that you be in imminent danger of death or serious injury before brandishing a firearm. This guy clearly wasn’t in danger, at least according to the article, so he showed extremely poor judgment by pulling a handgun.
The media loves stories like this but never seem to report on the guy who saved his family by responsibly handling a firearm. Thereby giving the anti gun lobby more ammunition to further restrict our rights. That’s why I think this guy is a moron.
Thanks for admitting it, I'll admit to name calling to, but it's not right in either case. Two wrongs don't make a right. As far as verbal arguments, if someone was to say they are going to kill you, while holding a kitchen knife or sitting behind a the wheel of a vehicle, would you draw your firearm? I agree, if they were calling each other idiots, then yes there was no justification in drawing a firearm. If threats were made and the potential of great bodily harm was there, the gun owner could of very well felt his life was in danger. Not enough information to judge from an online forum.

If this is the way KelCarry's story really went down, and the truck driver went to his truck and retrieved his gun and used it, he is in the wrong. He should of went to his truck, started it, and left. We can nit pick every single scenario about what could or should of happened, but we weren't there, the news never gives us a full story from both sides, we should not be judging, and even more so not be calling names.

Quoting santa quoting someone...An armed society is a polite society. Let's try and be polite.

You might want to consider the fact that you are not allowed, by law, to wave your gun around at people.
