Thread: No hearing protection

I first shot my G19 outside with no ear plugs...WOW was that loud. I had only shot long guns prior to that, I had no idea that it was so loud. I hope I never need to do that in my house. especially for the sake of my kids. Needless to say it's ear plugs from now on. And my S&W 622 .22 is just as loud. I found that surprising.

There is always the option of doing the paperwork and paying $300 for a class-3 stamp and get a silencer...

Yea indoors would not be cool. I'm looking into getting a supressor. They are legal now in Michigan but heard they have a 6 month waiting period.

I don't think supressors are legal in NYS...I will have to check that out. I saw on
tv that you can use a potato, I don't remember what show it was on.

Needless to say I fired off 3 rounds in a safe manner but with no hearing protection. No, you didn't. If you fired the rounds w/out hearing protection you did not fire them in a safe manner It kind of sucked, but it was not as bad as I thought it would be. I did this because I feel it is important to have a small sense of what a defensive situation would be like. The ears rang for a good 8 hours or so but I'm fully functional now. :)No, you're not. You've suffered permanent hearing loss however slight

Won't be doing that again for a while. But hey, now I know. Back to training properly now!
Please don't ever do anything that stupid again

I don't know that you can expect the sound to be the same shooting at targets only because of the other human factors that come in to play when you're in a life or death situation.

In any case, my experience was enough to prove to me that I'll never shoot without hearing protection unless I'm hunting or saving my life. It's just not worth the damage I know the sound does to my ears.
What you experienced was auditory exclusion just because you didn't register the sound doesn't mean your hearing wasn't damaged
