  1. Michigan CPL holder checking on local and state laws before western road trip.

This might be a tough question for one person to answer so I'm hoping multiple people can chime in. I am a Michigan resident and I have a concealed carry permit from my state. I am planning on taking a big western road trip and am wondering if anyone knows any laws I need to be aware of traveling through a lot of different states. I checked the reciprocity maps and see that every state west of Michigan will recognize my permit save for Illinois, California, and Oregon. On my trip I will have to travel through Illinois (obviously with my gun locked in a case in the back of my truck) and I do not plan to enter California or Oregon.
But after I get through Illinois will I be safe to carry my handgun on me?
Is it worth the hassle/risk of missing a law I was unaware of in another state?
If I were to get stopped is it my responsibility to announce that I am carrying a weapon or just better not to say anything?

The list of states I could be traveling through follows.

    Indiana
    Illinois
    Iowa
    Missouri
    Nebraska
    Kansas
    Oklahoma
    Texas
    New Mexico
    Arizona
    Nevada
    Utah
    Colorado
    Wyoming
    Idaho
    Montana
    North Dakota
    South Dakota
    Minnesota
    Wisconsin

The bulk of my trip will be in the states of New Mexico, Arizona, and Utah so I am especially interested in those states.

Follow up question, what is the law for carrying in National Parks and State Parks?

Thanks in advance for any info/opinions!

Take a look at www.handgunlaw.us. Study the carry laws of each state that you plan to carry in. State park laws are typically mentioned.

Also, study this www.handgunlaw.us/states/usa.pdf, especially note the parts about Interstate Transportation and Places Off-Limits. You can carry in a National Park if you can carry in the state you are in. Note the issues with Indian Reservations and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers land.

Check the Web site of any tourist attraction you want to visit for any specific rules regarding firearms.

My opinion is that if you're dumb enough to get your legal advice from random strangers on the internet you deserve whatever you get.

Thank you. This is what I was looking for.

  6. If you have and use a iPhone, I would recommend downloading and using the app called "CCW" as well as the what "bofh" recommended.
It's always update with current laws.
    Safe travels.

What is nice about the CCW 50 State app is how easy it is to pull up each state. Look at main page for main concerns.

I totally agree with you but I don't know if I would have Bluntly put it that way.

I always use HandgunlawUS. bofh has it right.

Do you have a destination state, where you will be staying for a while?

The police may ask this, first of all, but, also, that state's laws might be

    worth extra attention.
