Florida Police Caught on Camera Conspiring to Lie and Frame Woman for Accident

Four Hollywood, Florida, police officers and a crime scene technician are suspended with pay — and probably contemplating career changes — after being recorded by a police dashboard camera conspiring to frame a civilian driver for a crash. Alexandra Torrensvilas was arrested for driving under the influence only after a police officer rear-ended her at a traffic light, and that officer and his colleagues openly discussed, within range of the camera’s audio pickup, doctoring their stories and the evidence to blame the woman for the collision.

One of the officers can be heard saying, “I don’t want to make things up ever, because it’s wrong, but if I need to bend it a little bit to protect a cop, I’m gonna.”

Also recorded was, “We’ll do a little Walt Disney to protect the cop because it wouldn’t have mattered because she is drunk anyway.”Suspended in the incident are Officers Joel Francisco and Dewey Pressley, Sgt. Andrew Diaz, community service Officer Karim Thomas and crime scene technician Andrea Tomassi.

Besides blowing the DUI case against Torrensvilas out of the water (charges were dropped,) the officers have compromised every case on which they worked. Since they’re on record falsifying testimony, past and present cases in which they testified or were scheduled to testify will have to be reviewed. Some convictions may be overturned and pending charges will likely be dropped.

Broward County Chief Public Defender Howard Finkelstein has also called on state investigators and the FBI to get involved.

Up for discussion: The potential benefit to be had by making sure that all police conversations are recorded.

This is obvious anti-police propaganda. It is not possible for police to do anything wrong!

--There, now maybe I won't get banned--

The problem with this is that a 'mere citizen' never knows which cop he's dealing with. Those who always defend cops would have you believe you never have to worry about this. The reality is that it does happen to someone and each time you interact with authorities it's another opportunity for it to be you.

Someone will be right along to assure us all that these cops were among the very few 'bad apples' on their force. I have another question that the 'law-n-order' folks won't even try to address: "How often does this go without being caught?"

    They will say it's rare.

    I believe it is common.
People don't like to be meddled with. We tell them what to do, what to think, don't run, don't walk. We're in their homes and in their heads and we haven't the right. We're meddlesome.--River Tam

  4. I don't see what's wrong with recording everything that is going on. The equipment has already been purchased and it just keeps everyone honest. We have cameras recording everything else - why not interaction with government authorities.

I do not carry a gun for any other reason other than to give me options that I would not have without a gun in a life-threatening circumstance.

Obviously they "should" be prosecited, as any "other" person would be.
Filing a false police report, lynig under oath/perjury, violating constitutional rights, flase improsnment.
What other higher standards are there ?
and to paraphrase Sheriff Grady Judd when asked Why didn't you charge them with more crimes ?
Because we ran out of laws !
