I may have missed this, or mis-understood, but you said a gun was included with the course.. What did you get??

    Jim,
I am so glad you posted your report. I bought FS memberships for me and my husband with their "Don't Tread On Me" campain a couple months ago, but with my work schedule, I haven't been able to attend yet. Things aren't going so well at my job right now, and more than once I have wished they would just get it over with and fire me so I can go to FS and maybe participate in other shooting events...

Hey, Hoot, you can check Frontsight's website for current update, but when I took the 5-day defensive handgun course (2 yrs. ago), you received an XD with all the trappings. Not a bad deal for a full 4.5 days of training and paperwork and coursework for several state permits (I didn't need 'em). Total, including the weapon was $1200. May have gone up, now, don't know...

I bought a Blackhawk CQC Holster in the ProShop and couldn't believe the difference. I've been kicking myself ever since for not buying it the first day.

Boomer, I know that compulsion now, too. I'm trying to get another class in before the end of the year. And I made the decision on the flight home the next time they advertized one of those foreclosed Legacy Memberships I would jump on it. Well, my brand new First Family hat is right next to the pooter! I got the bug bad.

Kudzu, love your name. I have family in wester SC and absolutely love the area. I can't believe I forgot the shoot house. I got a compliment from the instructor at the doors. The wind caught the door as I went through it, whipped around, and smashed my right arm. Didn't drop the red-gun and finished with my left hand. He said he was impressed. I know I was! And Monsters Inc. was COOL! I don't know why but my sense of humor kicked in. To the first female target I said, "Hi honey, I'm home." It went fine till the long shot. Two clean misses. At some point I switched to all head shots. I don't know why and I didn't do it on purpose. The hostage target got a perfect head shot on the BG and then another one on the hostage. The instructor asked about it after and I said, "She's not my wife, she's behind me. But she is prettier and I figured if I didn't drop her my wife would!" And I just couldn't hurt the little gomer at the end.

Festus, consider it done. I showed the guy that runs the range near my house what I'd learned and he was impressed. He's given me permission to draw from the holster (unheard of for non-LEO) and even had me help someone else that was having trouble (she was pulling everthing low/left).

What I didn't include was that once we were a little bit comfortable, John and I OCed EVERYWHERE (except the casino). WalMart, the Grocery Store, Carl Jr, even Hoover Dam. I thought sure with it being a federal facility and a major landmark that Homeland Security would have a fit, but we stopped a DOI Cop and he said it was fine as long as we didn't try to take a tour with them or carry more than 1000 rounds. We had a good laugh about the ammo restriction and nobody batted an eyelash. It was just an unreal experience for someone born and raised in MD. The only time anyone said anything to us was in the grocery store when a lady asked if we were Bounty Hunters!

Flash, I'm no spring chicken, myself. Is there a group for us or something? And I'm proud to say as of 2 weeks ago I, too, am a Lifetime Member of Front Sight.

    Jim
Good on ya, GSDman, for becoming a lifetime member. Maybe see ya there sometime, I try to get down there 2-3 times per year. Interesting note: I"m also a native Marylander (Baltimore County); moved out here to flyover country about 25 years ago and never looked back. Do visit at least once a year for my "crab fix", tho!

Looks like they are still providing XD's...
So.. How much did the trip cost you in total???
The course was $1200 (now $1400) then you had hotel and transportation and car rental... Any idea on the total??

If any of you guys get the itch to go to or return to Frontsight, please let me know. I would try to go at the same time. It's always a great time and I'd really dig the chance to meet some of my online Patriot compadres.

JJF, I plan to do the 4 day pistol class sometime in Sept or Oct this year. I just haven't figured out how to work it into my work schedule or if I'll still be working by then. I guess the class starts every Friday, so I'll get it worked out soon. I also hope I can meet others from our forum.

I'm also looking at the October timeframe, Fondis, so let's stay in touch on this, if you want.

Hootmon, I go pretty cut-rate as I have relatives in Vegas that I stay with and borrow a car from. Many have told me, however, that there are very reasonable hotels in Pahrump, about 25 miles from Frtsight, certainly MUCH cheaper than staying in Vegas. We also have a straight flight from here to Vegas which costs $99. So, I do go "on the cheap".

It is pricey, my friend, but I haven't met anyone who didin't think it wasn't worth it. A GREAT time, one of the best vacation ideas I can think of.

  11. I may miss something but here ya go.

Course, including Springfield XD45 and gear - 1200.00 It's gone up to 1500 now.
Ammo, 650 rounds in my case - 400.00
Boxed lunches from Beach Cafe - 70.00
Money Orders for NV and FL permits - 220.00
Round trip air fare - 300.00
    6 days at Saddle West - 320.00
    Car - 300.00
Food and junk, give or take, about 200.00
fee to transfer gun into MD - 40.00
    Total - 3050.00

That's for one person. 2 people can split a lot of it and we spent more than we really needed to also.

Sorry about not being clear about the gun. FS's offer includes a Springfield XD pistol in your choice of 9mm, 40 S&W, or 45ACP. It's the Service Model with 4" barrel and they can make substitutions if you want something else. John and I both got the XD45 and, since there was enough time before our course, we had them sent to our FFL's in MD ahead of time. Had we not done it this way, we would have gotten our guns when we arrived the first day but would have had to wait for them to be shipped to our FFL's after the class.

    Jim
