Thread: Should Politics and Religion Be Banned?

  1. Here's my $0.02. Maybe it's already been said. I'm not going to read through all the posts in this thread to find out.

Religion and politics are like guns. The topics, in and of themselves, harm no one - only those who mishandle them or purposely use them to cause harm.

Well said. Easy to do from the anonymity of a keyboard on the Internet. I suppose that's why they like it so much and vehemently defend their ability to get away with it here.

As a newish member, I have to say that both religion and politics are a big part of owning a gun, they have their place on the forums. I do not think that someone should steal a topic to rant about the latest Tea Party Movement, what Sarah Palin did or did not say, or how Obama is the "Devil". If you want to talk politics and how you don't like the way it is being run go to a political forum and post there. However if the question posted on the forum is related to Politics, ie gun control, new gun laws, etc., that should be talked about here as it is related to the main topic.

Also, thank you for putting up a poll, but I refuse to vote on it as the way I understand it, we would be banning either ALL POLITICS, ALL RELIGION, or BOTH and I don't think that is right.

But hey, that's just this Democrat's idea.

Real Satanists don't actually care about converting anyone. We don't try to scare people into our line of thinking with threats of eternal damnation and then ask for complete submission and lifelong donations of money. We don't discourage the discussion of any topics. We encourage it because it's better for what's going on in people's minds to be let into light.

So yeah, you know nothing of Satanism, only the propaganda of the Oppressor (whom you call God). Have you ever actually read the Satanic Bible? It's more of a philosophy than a book of fairy tales. I've actually read the Holy Bible from cover to cover and know much about its doctrine, so I have a little more credibility in my criticisms of Christianity.
    No. I have it right.
The "sin" of vanity (self-worship) was the reason Lucifer was cast out of Heaven. His vain desire to be greater than GOD led to his downfall. This vanity was also reason behind the downfall of mankind.

Like I said before, I fully support your right to express your views; and I hope you would support mine as well.

However, I am curious what "oppression" you are talking about when you state God is the oppressor. My bible tells me that those that the "SON" (Jesus) sets free are FREE...! So, as a Christian I can NOT relate to your false accusation/assumption. (We are truely FREE; when we are in Christ Jesus.)

It was just such a fear of internecine Christian sniping that was the cause of the letter from the Danbury Baptists which ultimately gave rise to Thomas Jefferson's coining of the phrase, "wall of separation between church and state" to characterize how religion and governmental power was to interact.

So, far from being the exception to the rule of how public Christians conduct themselves, tcox4freedom is the rule.
    Hey Cathy,

I understand what your saying. I have strong feelings and a strong faith as a christian, however, that does not mean that every other religion is wrong. Nor does it mean that I should insult or degrade another religion. Just my personal feelings.

thanks for the reproof. I went back and edited "out" the insults; but, left in the truth.

I also ask midnight to forgive me if he were insulted. I just wish to share the TRUTH of God's love with him.

Serious question... I know nothing of Satanism other than what the name implies. Could you share a little bit of the doctrine? What does the satanic bible teach?

  10. The bulk of the responses to this thread show exactly why I think that BOTH religion and politics (with the exception of legislation that is directly associated with the 2nd Amendment) should be banned.

Just to clarify, I am NOT a 'Liberal', 'Progressive', 'Socialist' or any of those other 'evil' catchphrases that have been thrown around. I'm so far to the right that I basically make Ronald Reagan look like a Centrist and John Wayne and Ward bond look like card carrying members of the Socialist Party. I am also NOT an Atheist, Agnostic, Humanist, or any of the other 'evil -ists' that have been mentioned. I am a practicing Southern Baptist that was raised in a little country Baptist church in the Deep South that was so conservative that you had to be over 60 to be allowed to say 'Amen!" and tapping your toe a little during the Homecoming singing was as close to dancing as was allowed.

What I AM, however, is TOLERANT.

I don't shove my beliefs- be they political or religious- down other folks' throats. I realize that folks don't have to agree with me -and most likely, a whole bunch of the world won't. I realize that when it comes to religion, there is NO certainty, so all that's left is personal belief. That's why it's called 'faith' and you can't force 'faith'.

When it comes to politics, everybody's got an agenda. What an individual's agenda is depends on what that particular person holds dear. 'All politics is local politics' is how the old saying goes and nothing is more local to a man (or woman) than the tip of his own nose. What is important to YOU may not be important to ME because it has a greater impact on YOU than it does ME.

Since everyone here has a vested interest in the 2nd Amendment (I assume this by the default of everyone here voluntarily joining the forums and the distinct lack of anti 2nd Amendment trolls posting on this thread), let's limit the politics to where our interests overlap. We can at least agree on that much already. It doesn't matter if there's an Agnostic Libertarian, Conservative Christian Liberal or a Sikh Progressive reading the posts. We are all here for the same purpose and all the bickering and infighting over other issues is doing nothing but muddying the waters.

    PS
Luke, is there some way that I can change the defaults on the 'Reply to Thread' screen? I really don't want email notification every time there's a response to a thread I post to. On hot topics like this one, it tends to fill the old In Box up fast.

Good post jtg452, It goes along with what I said in post #27 about the thin line. Not to speak for luke, but to answer your question about the defaults and not receiving e-mail every time someone posts on a topic you have been on: Go to quick links under your personal page, select edit options, Default Thread Subscription Mode, and choose from there how often you want to be contacted.
