Considering the number of folks that think only LEO should have firearms, you would be able to do nothing, thank God I live in Texas.

My only deciding factor to hesitate in aiding an officer would be if my kids were with me at the time. In that case getting them to safety while calling 911 is my priority. Situational awareness. If I can get them to safety AND aid the officer...by all means.

In the situation you describe call 911 stop and help, in the case he is under fire you must attempt in some way to contact the officer and inform them you have their back if they want it.....

I still find it interesting that you all are forgetting that police officers wear bulletproof vest and are so willing to jump into a gun fight without one. If the officer get hit he will have broken ribs or a bruise you on the other hand will have a bullet hole and what ever damage the bullet cause when it passes through your body. And that is if they are shooting at center mass and not the head.

He may have a vest on but a shot in the arm pit can kill.

This is one of those questions that we really wouldn't know what to do until it was time to act. I would try to help any way I could, it is the right thing to do.
