    The Office

Did anyone see the recent episode of The Office where Dwight Schrute fired a revolver in the office and then wasn't allowed the management position because of that? As I'm a recent member to personal defense crowd with my recent purchase of my first pistol (a G21, I'm 6' 9" with a slender frame, so CC'ing that is not a problem, even with shorts and a t-shirt and OWB holster) I was not pleased with the response that Joe had, that and how she, being from Texas, was portrayed as being very anti-gun. For me, I can't carry to work since I work at a government location, but if I could, it would be something I'd do. But "playing" with his gun the way he did, that was obviously why the ND happened. Anyhow, I didn't see any discussion on this and was curious what the opinions were, considering TV and movies, especially ones that try to portray normal life situations, shape people's opinions.

Most of the TV programs I have watched usually have an underlying anti gun, poor handling stupid folks, the actual stats fail to indicate the poor handling, real world folks who carry are very careful, remember an incident where a local TV station was visiting a well run gun store, they would not hand the crew a real gun and instead a rubber one which the girl promptly pointed and waved around, she had the rubber gun taken away and was told she would hold nothing while conducting the interview. TV=Hollywood=Anti Gun.

  4. I miss the UNIT. They had an episode which showed CC in a very positive light. Even had an anti-gunner converting. Good show.

Morgan spurlock (the "supersize me" movie guy) did a really cool documentary style show that took people from drastically different ideological standpoints and made them live together to understand the other side. The gun/antigun episode was fabulous, it's called "30days"

Diane Sawyer did an "expose" on concealed carry - demonstrating several stunts guaranteed to come out badly for the CC person. One scene they dressed everyone in very bulky sweatsuits, and gave one guy a dummy gun. They made him sit in a specifc seat attending a lecture was on gun safety, etc. Then a "bad guy" burst in and the first person he "shot" was the CC guy in that prescribed seat. Then he "shot" several others. This was repeated for several groups. Very few could get their gun out of the pocket of the sweatsuit, much less get a "shot" off. Very obviously rigged. This cr*p is typical of the media.

Dallas about 2 years ago, fellow who owns a junkyard and lives on the premises over a period of several months shot, killed or wounded, several burglars - all in the wee hours. They didn't just steal the junk, they were breaking into his residence. After the last 2, the media got hold of it, and turned him into an evil villain, a trigger-happy killer. He was none of that, just protecting his life and livelihood. One reporter even brought him to tears after a court appearance. The public response to her savagery got her fired, thank God! He lost his shotguns while the investigations were going on. But he recieved several replacements as gifts from people who felt his pain!! This wasn't a CC issue, but a Castle Law one - he was cleared of any wrongdoing, but I bet it cost him a pretty penny to do it. He also did fortify his compound some more (razor wire, bigger fences) after the first burglaries. People asked why he didn't build a fortress - why should HE have to put HIMSELF in a prison to keep people out who have no business being in there in the first place?

Morals, don't trust the media, and be damn sure you can pull your weapon quickly and easily - don't drop it into the bottom of a sweatsuit pocket!

  8. I seem to recall a Micheal Moore Documentary where he talked about a bank that was giving away free guns (via FFL + required background check) and he arranged to have the gun shipped to the bank so he could film it being given to him by the manager on film upon opening his account.

But he cut the footage so that it looked like he just walked into the bank and was handed a gun without a background check or FFL paperwork, and called the bank irresponsible.

Try to remember that nothing on TV is true. Also remember that many watchers believe these things can or do happen. Another reason to carry a gun.

  10. About the OP's question, I saw the show and didn't see anything wrong with it. The reason he had THAT gun was that the new boss Joe? had the same gun, and he was trying to suck up. So I didn't get an anti gun feeling from it.

Overall my opinion is that the gun/incident was actually really understated in the show. If someone shot a gun in an office in real life, I am willing to bet they would be fired on spot, and there would be a LOT bigger deal made of it. Personally, I thought they did it fine on the show? And never gave it another thought until I read your post.

I watched that video too, your details are a little off but pretty close. It was one of the most slanted shows I have ever seen.

Here is a link, I think that is part 1 of 2, maybe 3? Just pisses you off more than anything when you watch it.

Well-written and timely show... too bad it didn't get a solid following due to being bounced all over the schedule. Good stuff!
