New York's Stop and Frisk on the way out?

NEW YORK (AP) A federal judge let the New York Police Department on Tuesday temporarily resume stop-and-frisk stops she believes are unconstitutional while she decides what permanent remedies are necessary to prevent illegal stops at thousands of privately owned buildings....

Scheindlin said she believes her original ruling was correct when she found police sometimes stopped people who were merely entering or exiting buildings and not acting suspicious, but the city had shown it would be expensive to immediately implement an order that could be reversed in a complicated area of law.

"There is more than enough proof that a large number of people have been improperly stopped as a result of NYPD practices. These facts warrant an injunction," she wrote Tuesday.
This particular trial addresses stop and frisks of people entering Bronx buildings; the judge ruled the NYPD's S&F practice in this instance is unconstitutional. Another trial in March addresses the constitutionality of S&F all across the city.

Is S&F on its way out in New York? Is Bloomberg finally being reined in? We can only hope...

No need for stop and frisk, new technology lets them "look through you clothes to spot a firearm. As seen on tv this morning. I'm certain that Nanny, sorry, New York city does not see this as a privacy issue.

Considering the majority of police officers are male, I'm sure women's groups will be up in arms about that.

NY City CouncilReins in Bloomberg, NYPD Stop and Frisk program....

Those who have been victimized by this practice will finally have legal recourse against Bloomberg and the NYPD.

"At about the moment that New York City marks the five millionth recorded time that its police have stopped and frisked someone most likely an innocent person of color the City Council passed a policy to severely curtail the practice. In a dramatic 2 a.m. vote Thursday morning, the Council approved measures to create independent oversight of the police force and to give those affected by the practice legal recourse. The police commissioner and Mayor Bloomberg are not happy." New York's Stop-and-Frisk War Has Reached the Breaking Point

Our government conjures up this security theatre in the name of "keeping us safe". Recently good 'ole Barry said in a speech that we are going to have to make a choice about what is more important: privacy or security. What??? I remember a quote that i'll paraphrase here. Those who give up liberty for security will neither have nor deserve either one. Some guy named Benjamin Franklin said that. But then again our founding fathers were the original terrorists according to many federal training programs for law enforcement. We live in a police state because of Al Queda.... wait no... Home Grown terrorists.... Wait.... Has anyone even seen true home grown terrorists or is this hype all because of Bin "on ice" Laden is now finally dead for the 8th time or so and they need to roll out another boogie man/men to manufacture perpetual fear which leads to perpetual war all to benifit the military industrial complex. I remember a couple of presidents who made speeches warning the American people of the military industrial complex secret societies. One ended up with his head blown off in Dallas.... Sorry for the rant but all of this is connected. This stop and frisk is just prisoner training for the public for indoctronation into a new world order.

Make all "gun free zones" also "stop and frisk zones". Yeah, that's the ticket! OOps NYC is a gun free zone. Hmmm, then why the need to "stop and frisk"? Makes sense to me!
