Around here it is very well known that the trucks come on Monday, Wednesday, Friday & Saturday. It is also known that you have to beat the Flea Market hoard or you will get no Ammunition. The resale of Ammunition at the local Flea Market is triple the shelf price, but every Saturday and Sunday they sell everything they have purchased from Walmart.

    My Question is this:

When Did Walmart become the Quintessential Ammo Dump?
And if its not, Where do you find Ammunition more reasonable priced and *Gulp* Plentiful?
I don't know how many of you are in shock at the price of .22 rimfire ammo. The CMP is offering Ely primed Aguila for 26 bucks per brick. I'm retired USAF, so I don't have to jump through very many hoops. Check and see if your club is a CMP affiliate. The GOOD news--you don't have to participate in a shoot to buy ammo from CMP. The really BAD news---expect to wait almost 6 months for your rimfire ammo to arrive.

I was on Gander Mountain's mailing list and they now have what they call their "Ammo Club". Its a listing of what stores will be getting ammo each week. You can search by state, then scroll down to find the nearest store. Once you find the store you want, it lists a 'yes' or 'no' if that caliber is included in the shipment.

As for the 'gougers', especially the LGS... I simply wouldn't buy from them, but would go one step further...I would make it a point to tell them while in line at WalMart that I will not spend a single dime with them from now on...then, I would make a special trip to the store to tell them that (in front of whatever customers are at their counter) I think it's despicable that they are buying up Walmart ammo and re-selling at 3X the price. Make it a point that you will NEVER SPEND ANOTHER DIME AT THEIR STORE!!!

Oh... and remind them that you will be telling every friend & business acquaintance, every person in line at walmart, the grocery store, at the range about their questionable business practices. Also remind them of the statistics which show.... a satisfied customer will share his experience with one other person, while a dis-satisfied customer will tell ten other people, and in this case you will try to tell hundreds!!!

I've had that happen to me in the past. I was traveling by boat on vacation and had an impeller implode. We were meeting friends at their home port (which we sailed to almost every weekend to meet our friends, so the owner recognized and 'knew' me) and the boat shop heard our radio chatter. My friends went into the shop to see if they had my part in stock so we didn't have to delay the rest of the trip. When I got there, they had my part on the counter waiting... my $24 part was now $75. I asked the owner... don't you think that's a bit out of line? His reply was... I heard you on the radio, and "you're stuck" in our harbor! My friends, who had cars there (that was their harbor) offered to drive me to another marine store approx 30 miles away, but that involved a Saturday afternoon and an international border crossing...and it was their vacation time as well. My friends argued that it was no problem, but again, I didn't want to ruin another minute of their vacation if I didn't have to. I looked the store owner in the eye, handed him my $75 + taxes and told him to take a good look at the money I was handing him. He asked why...and I told him that was the LAST dollar I would EVER spend in his store! Then I pointed to my friends who also told me they would boycott the store as well, and asked him if he saw them. He looked a little perplexed and responded...Yes, I see them, why? They responded that they too, would NEVER SPEND ANOTHER CENT IN HIS STORE!...AND WE'LL BE TELLING EVERYONE WE KNOW WHAT HAPPENED! That was 15 years ago, and none of us have ever spent another dime in his store, nor did many of my friends, and my friends friends, etc, etc.
Some time later, the owner actually asked a couple of my friends why he never sees them in the store anymore...and they told him. He now gets it!

Buy online. Gander is starting to get it in as well. I think gander was beginning to loose market share because they were selling 9mm handguns to folks and gander didn't have ammo for the pistols. Matter of fact they didn't have anything except shotgun shells and only 12 gauge to boot. I know that some of the clerks at gander were keeping the ammo in the back and not on the shelves only to turn around and retrieve it for their buddies. Walmart needs to stop selling to flea market hawkers and can only do this by having a large supply on hand. Perhaps if Walmart were not seeing sales in other firearm related goods they They will change their marketing strategy! Go to Walmart and look for ammo they don't have. Then tell the clerk you want to handle the firearm chambered in the rounds they don't have. After wasting the clerks time ask him where they have the ammo for that firearm. When he says they don't have any stock return him the firearm and politely tell him you are going to another retailer that has the gun and the ammo.

Some stores in my area are starting to get more ammo and more ammo. I was surprised to find .38 ammo in the ammo isle instead of at the customer service desk. They usually stock it at the customer service desk to limit purchases to 2 boxes per customer. I have seen recently that the online sites are getting more calibers of ammo available but I still can not believe the prices for .22!

I live in a rather small town and I have not seen much of a change in Ammo availability. Once again, tonight I need to get my butt up to Walmart and see if I can score some .22, or 9mm, or .45.
I have hopes to be there one day when I can get a 1000 pack of .22 for $48.99. If I'm first in line I can buy 3 of them if they come in.

I guess that we down here do things differently. None of the LGS have gone to WallyWorld to get ammo. Our prices are based off of what we get it from our suppliers for. Come around the first of the year, one of our suppliers will be a distributor for one of the ammo mfgs. His first order will be 500 cases of ammo. That includes a batch of .22LR, .380, 9mm, and .45ACP. Prices should drop further at that point. We just got in 3000 rounds of PPU 5.56x45 XM193 ammo. And it is sold already.

I wasn't suggesting that all LGS are doing this and applaud you for your ethical business practices. None of the WalMart stores in the area are allowing this to happen, as they have a limit on number of boxes that can be purchased. In my opinion, it would be a waste of time for the LGS to spend the time for high margins on low volume....not to mention the loss of reputation.
