Thread: What do the laws say?

Dunno about the laws, but in my view: You have a duty to protect your fellow citizens. This is not something that can be laid down in a single legislative act to cover all situations. Each individual must use their own judgement, "laws" notwithstanding. In order to be a full, participating member of society, you must act withing the unspoken compact with your fellow citizens, and uphold your duty to protect them as they must act to protect you. Whether or not this is the politic stance, I don't know nor do I care. I see an old lady being attacked, I'm going to act in her defense. Same for anyone who needs my help.

    Simple.

Just remember, if a LEO happens to show up, he's not gonna know you are the good guy, and you will more than likely be shot, and possibly killed.

Yes, in Virginia here we can intervene as well. I won't unless I or my family are threatened.

If a LEO happens to show up, it will probably be well after the attack. I am not going to stand by and watch a gang of rapists viciously attack a young girl. I am not going to stand by while a gang of punks murders an old man or woman. I will not stand and do nothing, if I have the power to stop a mass gunman slaughtering a bunch of children. Yes I guess you can say "I am my brothers keeper".
By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house;by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith Heb.11:7

+1 to that. To those who say they'd intervene only if it were a loved one, are you saying if it were a total stranger being attacked, raped, or in any way accosted, are you saying that other than calling 911, you'd do nothing? What if this were you?

Michael, in Arizona, there is no requirement to retreat. If you fear for your life, you may defend yourself and not have to take as much as one step backwards. Where in Arizona will you be locating? If you are near Casa Grande, (halfway between Phoenix and tucson,) I can recommend a top-notch instructor who teaches CCW classes. He was my instructor in the poilce academy and my CCW instructor.
BTW, I am speaking as a former LEO when I say that no cop would ever pretend to be holding up a business, I don't care what his undercover assignment may be. There are some things permitted, such as not having more than a .05% BAC while on an assignment, and the pretending to be using drugs, of course. But pretending to be pulling a 211 would never be okayed, for any reason. I do know this, whether anyone else does or not. (211 is an armed robbery)
A man without a gun is a subject; a man with a gun is a citizen.
I'll keep my freedom, my guns and my money. You can keep THE CHANGE.
An armed society is a polite society.
