teaching moment while watching g.i. joe retaliation

I finally had time to sit down with my girls and watch a movie. We picked up G.I.Joe Retaliation. In two scenes, Roadblock, played by Dwayne Johnson, grabs a 1911 by first putting his trigger finger on the trigger then picking it up. Both times I paused the movie and asked my girls what was wrong with each scene. They both gave good answers. I know it is just an action movie but kids are impressionable. I had to make sure they didn't forget firearms safety and that was an opportunity I couldn't pass up. It is even more important because we go to the Ben Avery Public Range somewhat frequently. one is fond of my rifle and the other likes shooting the pistol. Who knows I might have a pair of Grand Masters in the making. :-)

Just wanted to share this with other parents.

Good for you! It's always good to take an opportunity to teach young people to handle firearms safely.

  4. I noticed that also. I was not watching it with my kids...but thought to myself..."That is SO wrong!" Both times! Someone does not know how to handle a weapon.

Seize the opportunity, parenting is a 24/7 job. Well done.

I'd be surprised if a Hollywood-made movie showed firearm safety properly.
