Thread: XDs vs. Shield

  1. Both are good firearms, however you may want to look at the Kahr CW or CM models. I picked up the Kahr CW45 it is a real shooter. I tried an XDs45 first and didn't like it nearly as much.

I did get to try a Kahr PM9... I just wound up preferring the XDs and Shield. I'm having a hard enough time deciding between the two, don't need to add another back in! lol

  4. Lets us know which one you got, I did like the feel of the shield and the safety I was going to just not use it because anyway your safety is between your shoulder.

Awhile back YANKEE MARSHALL on Youtube dissed on His shield. The safety would be placed in the off position when holstered and when He pulled out gun, it would be on without his assistance. Might be only His gun, but that could be something to look at also.

    If it was I , I'd look and a 1911. It doesn't get much thinner than a 1911.

As for your two picks, xd is nice but m&p does not have grip safety , I would go with fewer parts.
Also, the m&p is a close glock copy.
Some do not like the xd, they say it sits too high in the hand.
Glad I am not the only glock toter in this establishment. You might also take note of the recent recalls.

I have owned XDs , Shield and Kahr CM9. Yes i have a sickness for pistols and enjoy trying out the different weapon systems. Still Own the Shield and the Kahr and like the both. I sold the XDs purely due to feel in the hand which i know is a weak reason for selling but that is why. One thing I have noticed is that lot of folks who complain about the safety on a shield are 1911 fans? My feelings on the safety issue is to train-train-train . One must- IMHO constantly train with any gun you plan on carrying for CCW. Safety on Shield is red herring issue especially if you put in the time so that you understand the weapon system and how to deploy it. I carry the Shield and Kahr religiously about 40- 60 respectively. I actually prefer the Kahr just because it is a little smaller and lighter yet i am deadly accurate with it. I am equally accurate with the Shield.

I'm still trying to figure out all the discussion about safeties. Why worry about muscle memory or brain training? With a grip safety, if you're not gripping in such a way to activate it, you're bullet's got going anywhere near its intened target, anyway

Just got back from buying one... *drumroll* I got the Shield. Why? Because I called all the gun shops in the area and that's the only one anybody had in stock! No XDs 9mm's (one in 45) anywhere in the area, no orders coming in any time soon, and I still had to drive an hour away to get the Shield. Maybe someday I'll get the XDs too, but I think an XDM would be a more likely guess for my next purchase. You know, when I'm able to afford one again.

I will purchase my Shield tomorrow in 9mm. I choose the Shield over the XDs because I liked the way it felt in my hand better that the XDs. The local gun shop already checked the Shield to make sure it did not have the trigger issue S&W warned about. I have been waiting for this gun for 3 weeks now as my state will have its 2nd Amendment weekend this weekend which exempts sales tax. :)

  11. ok I have big hands but I would like a compact for CC like a Nano, XDs or Shield but have not had a chance to shoot any of them.
    I have a XD5 40 and really like it..
