My "first love" handgun was a wheelie High Standard Double Nine in the late 60's, a Model 104. It was an absolute joy to shoot and I had it 10 years later when I got married. Several years more, when my son was still a toodler, and after much nagging, my wife finally "talked" me into selling both my revolver and rifle. I should have gotten rid of her and kept my guns as I would still have them now. She decided after 20 years she didn't want to stay married. My wheelie would have remained loyal to me. In short, have always wanted a Double Nine since then but never found one in good shape. I came close with a purchase this summer of a Heritage Arms Rough Rider .22LR/.22LR Magnum. It has much the feel and excitement I felt many years ago when I helped local ranchers redice the prairie dog population in their pastures. This gun has me excited in wheelies again and I know my next handgin purchase will be a wheelie. (I have 5 other handguns, all semis).

I did buy a wheelie for my next purchase, a Rossi snubby 2 1/2" .357 magnum. I mainly have shot .38 specials but when I stick in .357 magnum, the muzzle flash lights up the entire range. I plan it for a backup under certain circumstances. I later added a Rossi Model 92 Lever Action carbine (modelled after the Duke's Winchester in "Rooster Cogburn") and it is fun whether shooting specials or magnums. I do like both my wheelies.

    I have a couple revolvers in .357, S&W 586 6' and Charter Arms 971 (I think) ported 3" - still the best thing going.

My sole revolver is a Ruger LCR .357 which I use for alternate cc in colder months and when hiking. I have been looking at the SP101 in 3" and 4" for a better woods gun. I have relatively thick/small hands so this seems the best frame size for me.

Does anyone have any practical comparison experience with these guns for shoot-ability, holsters, conceal-ability, ballistics etc. How much practical advantage will the 4" barrel provide. Downsides to the 4"?

Thanks in advance for the help.
