Shingman Taurus has one of the best warranties on the market today. I purchased a model 605 .357 for my wife and she loves it. Taurus has come a long way in this industry and haven't heard much bad about them.

Have a 357 MOD 65 like Ringo only with blue finish. Comfortable in the hand, balance well but EXTREMELY loud shooting mag.'s. But have owned since 04, shot probably 600 rounds through it and never had any issues. Put 38 spec. +P's when the wife's needs to carry. All around a product for the price. I believe I spent 360.00 for it, 2004 prices.

I agree mappow the balance is great, and with the Hogue Monogrip it fits my hand like a glove and points like a natural. Very little recoil , a straighter shooter, and built like a tank. I wanted the stainless MOD but none were available when I purchased it. Because it's a keeper and I couldn't get a stainless MOD, I had it nickle plated.

I paid $336.00 for mine from Davison's GunGenie.com and had it delivered to a FFA near me.

I own the 809 out of the box before the first cleaning i put 200rds down range ... i figured if it was goin to break this would be the test.... and it performed extremly well... i had two ftfs with it but on further examination of the rounds it was due to bad primers and not the pistol...i took it home and gave it a thourough cleaning and took it to the range two weeks later ... and all i can say is it is extremely accurate... i was able to blow a 3 inch hole at 25 yds.... i love the taurus brand and would have purchased the 709 slim but they were out of stock everywhere i looked so i settled on a keltec pf9....

    Exclamation Taurus Brand

Your "friend" probably failed to clean all the Factory gunk out of the gun. Most problems straight out of the box are usually due the user NOT reading the Owners Manual first... All of them that I've read clearly state to break the gun down and thoroughly clean it "prior" to shooting the damned thing! I get tired of Taurus, or any other firearm taking a bad rap for the user's stupidity! I own a PT145, PT709SS, 738-TCP, and a PT25 and they all operate flawlessly. Glock has had their share of Slides breaking too, so their not the hot article some believe them to be.
