Don't think the governor and other politicians won't notice a bunch of letters from out of state, either, even if the authors can't vote in Iowa.

We need to flip a few more states and really isolate the hysterically anti-gun states like Illinois, New Jersey, New York, Maryland, Hawaii, and California. Maybe Wisconsin will be next to flip.
I sent an email aksing Gov Culver to sign...I will certainly send a letter thanking him.

RE: flipping. I have seen that IL and NJ both have shall issue legislation in their respective Senates. But of course most feel "it will never happen"....I'm willing to push for them as well.

If the control the City of Chicago wields over Illinois can ever be broken, there will be a chance. Perhaps the first step would be to let the counties decide, where you'd have a situation like the one in New York State. In New Jersey, I'm afraid that it's a lost cause until there's some sort of sea change. At the moment, New Jersey's politics are dominated by academic elites, representatives of the chronic poor, limousine liberals, big-government socialist types, and other people who would faint at the sight of a firearm. The kind of people who would support CCW are fleeing fast to escape the taxes. I would predict that New Jersey, Maryland, Hawaii, and New York City will be the final holdouts. I would include Washington, DC, but there's a chance that the U.S. Congress will strip the DC government of its ability to regulate guns.

Congrats. You finally got shall issue passed. Too bad it wont take effect until Jan 2011

Just a few months. No big deal. Better to celebrate the November election results first.

  6. I spent 18 years growing up in Iowa. Some of the nicest people you will ever know. They still hold the door for you and say hello even if they do not know you.I have spent most of my adult life in Colorado but may now someday consider moving back to Iowa now that a person can carry. Go Hawkeyes!!!

I mailed my letter of thanks to Governor Chet Culver yesterday. I mentioned that by becoming "shall issue," the Hawkeye State was being true to its motto: “Our liberties we prize and our rights we will maintain.”

I've visited Iowa many times (my daughter is a U of Iowa graduate) and found the people to be the way billsimswill describes them. People are like that here in Alabama, too. Of course, I spent 50 years watching New Jersey become ever more like New York City, so I have an unusual perspective.

I'm usually in Iowa once a year. It would be nice not to have to stop to unload and lock up my pistol. I have a resident Kansas permit and a nonresident Utah permit.

Congrats to the people of Iowa for getting the new shall issue law passed.

You don't have to qualify anymore and most people don't know that.

Paul Horvick at shootingsafely.com has classes that meet the requirements of the new law for getting a CCW permit, I attended one of his classes at Council Bluffs at the Holiday Inn Express and got my certificate of completion and I am just waiting until the law goes into effect to apply.

I offered the opinion that Alabama ought to be the next may-issue to go shall-issue in the Alabama forum and was flamed for doing so. I find it quite odd that I get flamed on a concealed carry issues forum for advocating a pro-gun position.
