    Cop doesn't understand lights...

This doesn't involve my CC permit, but I still found it really amusing :)

I work 2nd shift at a Freightliner dealership, so I get home around midnight. I was taking a co-worker home in Pleasant Hill, a suburb of Des Moines, IA. So I pull up to a stop light, I have my left turn signal on. Green arrow lights up and I turn. I pass a bank, a Subway, etc and get to his street and again, turn left. My buddy notices a squad car following me around the corner and says to me "You're going to get pulled over.". I looked in the mirror and I see him behind me. Apparently he was in the driveway of the Subway and I didn't notice the car. I continue up the street and pull into friend's driveway, he gets out and the officer is sitting in the street behind us. Waiting.

I am driving a Mercury Grand Marquis (poor man's Lincoln or the fancy version of the Ford Crown Victoria). I back out of the driveway facing the officer. His cruiser is blocking my path to head home myself, so I wait there with my window down and hands on the wheel, and he finally pulls up along side me.

I say 'hello' and he asks me "what is the deal with your turn signals". I say, while leaning out the window a little "oh, is there something wrong with it?" as I turn on my left signal. He says "what's the deal with the bright light on the corner?" A moment passes with me giving him this odd look and I realize and say "oh, that's a 'curb light' comes on to illuminate corners in cars like this". He had no clue what that was! Was a young officer, couldn't have been over 23, on the graveyard shift looking for something to do, lol.

So he says "well I suppose I'll leave you alone" and he drives way. I literally laughed out loud on my way home.

I imagine he got on his radio and was asking if 'curb lights' was a real thing.

That is funny! I had a Grand Marquis also. Just loved those curb lights. Really helps to light up the corner on dark streets. Mine was white with white leather bucket seats. My friends called it "The Pimpmobile"! lol

I've gotta say I'm 27 and I've never heard of curb lights.

You see them on some "luxury" cars, like older Cadillacs. I'm not sure how much they are used on newer cars these days though. I did see a reference in a search some Beemers that have the left or right fog light come on depending on which way you're turning, but in my case it's an extra light that is next to the headlight that of sort of "wraps" around the corner of the front end.

I really think that the guy was a little bored and probably noticed my car going through that neighborhood five nights a week, needed a reason to see what I was up to. At midnight in that little suburb there is basically nobody around, streets are empty.

Curb lights were a later version of headlights that pivoted as your wheels turn left or right to help you see as you go around curves or turns. First introduced on the Turner Automobile and is now being offered on some Mercedes and Audi. They used to freak a lot of people out even when they were popular, because they were so bright.

Never heard of curb lights before. Sounds like a pointless idea.

That's funny. Sounds like something that would happen in Des Moines... go figure!

My mothers Audi has those turning headlights. I think they're the dumbest thing in the world. Completely pointless.

    Could save lives/

In the future when your community is forced to save money by discontinuing street light service your will appreciate this kind of feature. There are many communities who are turning off the street lights to save money and allowing their citizens to sponsor individual lights by paying the power company directly for that service. Eurpeaon countries do not keep their streets as well lighted as we do, therefore for safety they apply the safety to the vehilces they drive lighting the way on where it is needed at the time.
Seems economical to me, not pointless.

My truck has intense headlights. Even the dims light up a few blocks and the sides. I've been pulled over once because the deputy thought I didn't turn my brights off. Not even sure if it's a law here...
