    30-30

A friend of mine recently "inherited" a Marlin 30-30 from her Dad.
She will NOT be hunting with it, just an occasional trip to the range.

What kind of ammo should she get on the cheap? Not exactly a target
gun. Just want to shoot holes in paper.

  3. What ever is cheapest. She might want to stick to bullets around 150 grains.
Without any requirements, any load on the shelf will put holes in the paper.

Think she may be interested in reloading?

^^^This, check online too, there is some pretty cheap foreign stuff that makes it out of the barrels just fine.

I guess a 30-30 is a good bush gun, but not the cheapest to shoot at paper.
Factory ammo is $15/20 around here.
Thanks for the info, I'll keep checking Armslist, & my local forums for a deal.

Meh, she's new to the shooting world. I doubt she would consider this option. She is a very GIRLY girl.

Looks like a great option for getting started on re-loading though.

    Needs to get another gun

I have used and hunted with a Marlin 30-30 for a very long time. I would not use it for a paper punch, by any means. If she wants a gun for target stuff and plinking, she might consider selling the Marlin and buying either a 10/22 or a 9mm carbine. The .22lr is hard to find, and often 15 cents a round these days. The 9mm can be found for about 32 cents a round, and provides a great shooting experience. But I'd be very surprised if this gal would consistently shoot the 30-30, even if she wants to pay 90 cents a round for it. And even if she can find it, of course. This is the cheapest I've found in quite a while: 30-30 Ammo | Bulk .30-30 Ammunition For Sale Cheap

And remind her that she must use only the flat point ammo... with the tube magazine, anything else could be dangerous.
