Thread: seeking some advice

  1. seeking some advice

fairly new to the site, but enjoy reading everyones posts. I am in the process of deciding what manufacturer to buy my ar15 from Price is not a huge issue, but reliability and accuracy are. I am leaning towards smith and wessons new mp15 (piston), only because of articles i have read, and the fact that i believe they bought thompson centers barrel process. I know i will be outfitting the gun with trijicon optics, and a light laser combo. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, and just to let everyone know, i do believe you get what you pay for, but at some point fool and money do have the ability to part ways. Thanks in advance to anyone who responds

I own some Smith and Wesson. I have a couple of T/C contender, and Encore products. I am very pleased.
Last weekend I put 50 rounds though a S&W 9mm 1911. It was almost like sex.
I have no idea what their AR platform is like.
The only not so good product I have seen from S&W is the sigma pistols trigger. However it is a inexpensive, and you get what you pay for.

    Thats my 2 cents worth.

Maybe you shouldn't comment just yet on the S&W AR platform ? Just a thought, since you have no experience with them. Their pistols will not identify any problems, or strengths with their AR platform.

Personally I'd stay away from anyone that hasn't been in the business of supplying the military with an AR platform. Gun mags will of course toast the gun with rave reviews, they do also pay for their advertising pages, which are generally right in front of the article with the rave reviews of their weapons platforms.

Lewis Machine Tool piston guns. Their gas impingement guns are also good to go. Look at their MRP uppers with their Defender lowers with the SOPMOD stock.

    LWRC M6 series Pistons.

Colt LEO series, 6920, 6940 etc.

    BCM

Those would be my top four.

    Others are built well also.

Good choice.. I own 4 Smith & Wesson firearms and have had no issues. My AR is a Colt however. It was a trade deal.
It's a 1993 Pre-ban test fired only firearm so.. Kinda had to jump at it. I was in the process of shopping for the M&P 15 when the trade conversation began. I'm most likely going to add a flat top upper for optics to the Colt lower and it will most likely be a M&P upper.

    Welcome to the site..

    Peace...
You can give peace a chance alright..

I'll seek cover in case it goes badly..

I also agree... I have experience with pistols from S&W, but do not own the M&P platform. I have had the pleasure of shooting one and was pleased with the performance..

Just my 2 pennies rolling around for public rebuke...

I owned two Bushmasters, one a standard M4 and the other an HBAR, but about two years ago(when the economy tanked) I had to sell them. Anyway, both were of the direct gas impingement system and worked just fine for me. I have never owned nor shot any AR's with the gas tappet system, but I believe it is a sound system. One advantage is that it tends to keep the bolt and bolt carrier a lot cooler while firing, but one downside is that they tent to be a little heavier. In the end, I think it is comparing a Granny Smith apple to a Red Delicious apple. Some of us like em' bitter and some of us like em' sweet.

    Question Where's my Barret love?

Having had the opportunity to shoot LOTS of AR15's, I have to say that, were I to be buying today, and with an open tab, I think that I would definitely get a Barrett-built REC-7, of course I would get the 6.8 (NOT a 5.56 fan).

I have the M&P 15-22 just for plinking, and if the 223/5.56 is anything like it, you can't go wrong. They are a pleasure to shoot and dead on.

I have a bushmaster and a Stag. I love them both. Can't go wrong with a Bushmaster
