I like his music and applaud his desire for peace, but don't really align myself with any of his politics...
    taking his life was senseless.
Have you ever listened to "Imagine"? very clever, and subtle. More people Know about that "Marxist" then they know about Pearl Harbor. I use to like the music too until I listened closely to the messages. Are we better of without Saddam or did we open a can of worms?

Many times... As I stated in my last post, I'm not aligned with his politics. I'm not an expert on WWII history, but find the study of it fascinating.

Needlessly taking human life is perhaps too broad a statement. The evidence that was presented against Saddam painted a picture of an individual who was responsible for the direct or indirect killings and acts of violence against many people. That evidence leads me to answer no to your question. No can of worms opened. We did not kill him directly, he was tried by his own countrymen and citizens and found guilty of and put to death for the crimes he committed. In John's case he had committed no violent crimes, his ideas were socialist and "hippie cultural" in nature and were by no means conservative. Hardly a reason to take his life especially with no immediate or violent provocation.

  4. I agree with your points, not to miss lead you, I didnt mean to get your pannies in a wad. I just will not support anyone who has a communist agenda. Including Arnold Swazenneigger I use to watch his movies until I found out his recents gun control position.

  5. Thumbs down Badly written newspaper article

Sent this to the publisher of the newspaper.
Interesting article. He makes many references to studies but doesn't provide the source or a link to allow the reader to check those sources.
    1. "In Maine and many other states, thousands of guns are sold annually with no background checks and no written records of the transaction, at gun shows and through "private sales" such as through Uncle Henry's. Many of these sales are made in violation of federal law (which prohibits sales to felons, domestic abusers, the mentally ill and other categories) and state law." - source?
    2. "For example, despite a recent statewide poll showing more than 88 percent support for requiring background checks of handgun sales at gun shows, the Legislature in 2009 refused to even consider such a bill." - source?
    3. "Maine is the No. 1 supplier of crime guns to Massachusetts. Maine's lax gun laws attract drug dealers to Maine, where they can both sell drugs and buy guns, often with drugs as the currency. Maine's high rates of teenage suicide and domestic violence are made worse by easy access to guns. Maine has a gun problem." - source?
    4. " Let's enforce existing gun laws! Background checks for all gun transfers would do that, and only that...Enforcement of a mandatory background-check law would be practically free – law enforcement already monitors compliance with background- check laws and illegal sales" This implies that background checks are required by law now but aren't being enforced? Is there an exception for gun shows and personal gun sales?
    5. "A California study concluded that every murder costs the state at least $1 million – to prosecute the defendant; usually to pay for his and the prosecution's legal costs; to care for the defendant for many years if not for life; and to compensate the family of the victim and, too often, of police officers injured or killed." - source?
    6. "But seriously, Maine deserves better – better laws, better attitudes, better safety. We don't need to wait for a school shooting in Maine, we can do it now and easily." Does Maine's current laws outlaw possession of a firearm on school grounds and firearm possession by anyone under 18 or 21 years of age? If "yes" then Maine schools are "shooting galleries" for anyone with a firearm or other weapon who disobeys the law. Bigger the school the bigger the problem. Armed citizens including teachers or admin at a school would do more to make school safe, unless two policemen can be stationed for 12 hours per day and for evening school events at every school in Maine. Otherwise, there is no one at the school who can take any action against a deranged killer on the school grounds.

If you all are worried about Maine going liberal, take a look at your two Senators and fire them. from their voting records they are RINOs (closet Liberals) I was raised in that country and it was a lot more conservative then (30s - 40s) then it is now. Headbeagle
