Brings tears to my eyes....God Bless this man.
Only two defining forces have ever offered to die for you, Jesus Christ and the American Soldier....One died for your soul; the other for your freedom.

  6. Larry has been to my hometown twice in the past two years to help pay respects for fallen servicemen - once for a 26-year-old in the Army, and once for a Korean War casualty whose remains were finally returned home after about 50 years. Our family has helped to set up and take down miles of flags both times.

We've spent time talking with him both times. Larry is a true patriot, a selfless person, and just a nice guy.

  7. Summer 2012, I was delivering some John Deere equipment to a small town in Minnesota. On my way through town, it looked like there would be some kind of parade - I thought "I'm glad I got through town before the parade started!"

When I got to the dealer, I was told they would unload me after the funeral procession went by. It was due in just a few minutes. I asked who's procession - I was told a soldier who had died in a bomb attack in Afghanistan. They said they hoped I understood - I said I did, but I wanted to stand as well.

First the cops came by, then the hearse, then the family limousine. Then came the motorcycles. Had to have been 200 or more -- all with flags. As a Navy vet, I stood at rigid attention and saluted with tears running down my face for a man I never knew; never met. And was completely unashamed of the years. (In fact, as I type this, my eyes are tearing at the memory.)

All I could think was "Rest in peace, Soldier - you earned your Angel 's wings."

From this old Navy veteran geezer's heart, I thank ALL who have served, are serving, plan on serving, and who support those that serve. May God Bless each and every one of you.
