    Missouri Law Changes

If I am not mistaken, the new law signed by the Governor will change the title of our permit. Is it in fact changing from a "concealed weapons permit" to a "concealed firearms permit?" If so how will that affect what we can carry legally in MO? Any help? Thanks

Change is based on the issuing agent. After January 1, 2014 the Department of Revenue will no longer issue the "endorsement", instead when you go to the sheriff to renew, they will issue you your "permit".

The replacement for section 571.30 does not change the weapons exemption. It will read: 4. Subdivisions (1), (8), and (10) of subsection 1 of this section shall not apply to any person who has a valid concealed carry [endorsement] permit issued pursuant to sections 571.101 to 571.121, a valid concealed carry endorsement issued before August 28, 2013, or a valid permit or endorsement to carry concealed firearms issued by another state or political subdivision of another state.

Area in [ ] is removed from the law and is replaced with the bold print wording.

So in my interpretation (and I am not a lawyer or prosecutor) the weapons exemption will still be in effect. Later in 571.037 it does mention concealed firearms only and this is where the confusion lies. Since it has not been cleared up in a court of law yet, carry with this in mind.

Don't know the answer to that sir. Please understand that Missouri recognizes all permits (even California and New York) but all states do not recognize Missouri's. We just lost the ability to carry in Nevada with our Missouri endorsement.
