Exclamation Nevada Legislature will screw it up (again).

Here's a link to the latest news concerning some of the stupid laws that exist in Nevada regarding CCW permits:
Nevada Legislature: Little opposition to weapon permit confidentiality | rgj.com | The Reno Gazette-Journal

Here's the text of the email that I sent the author....

    Ms. Bellisle,

I read with great interest the subject RGJ.com article.

I've put a Google Alert on future such articles and appreciate your efforts to cover this issue.

As a law-abiding CCW permit holder, I've been dismayed at previous attempts to clean up the Nevada CCW laws, especially the one regarding adding a semi-automatic pistol to an existing permit.

The entire process is downright silly and indicates that the legislature is truly ignorant of the facts surrounding pistols. The folks who testified obviously agree. However, we (CCW permit holders) have seen similar measures rejected past years by the legislative body.

Given that the Nevada Attorneys for Criminal Justice managed to throw a monkey wrench into what was expected to be a positive vote, I firmly expect the measure to be denied again this year. I hope I'm mistaken, but the history of the committee has shown that they will look for any excuse to continue the present process.

BACKGROUND INFO: Just last week, I purchased a new semi-automatic pistol for concealed carry. It took two days and over $50 to "wiggle" through the process of adding it to my permit. Had I purchased a revolver, there would have been no such requirement as my permit clearly states that, "All Revolvers (are) Allowed". Pretty silly...Huh?

    Respectfully,

Without a doubt the idiots in Carson City are headed exactly where they've gone before.

With all due respect, Lowjiber, you have a senator by the name of Reid. What the hell do you expect?
I don't know if it's a hold over from the years when Las Vegas was owned and operated by the mob - that the people of that state are so anti-gun - but I never thought of Nevada as being a liberal state. I guess I've been wrong all these years.
Too bad. I hope more people like you can make a difference there.
    Good Luck and God Bless.

Thanks for the blessing...I can always use 'em.

    A couple of comments...respectfully submitted.

I lived for several years in Florida and thee un-Godly years in California before moving to Nevada. I wouldn't classify Nevada as an anti-gun state. In fact the number of folks here that CC is amazing...even when compared to Florida (a very firearm friendly state IMHO).

Harry Reid is definitely out of touch with the common folks of Nevada. However, he has almost no effect in the state assembly. The only reason he was recently re-elected was the Republicans chose an idiot to run against him (Sharon Angle) in 2010.

All a guy like me can do is follow the laws and hope.

Fortunately, the number of pistols on my CCW permit does not need to be very large as all revolvers are allowed...once you've "qualified" with one. I added the LCP to the ParaOrdinance .45ACP on my permit last week simply because of its size, etc. I shouldn't have to do it again (Thank God).

You are seriously mis informed spooky. Vegas, Reno, and now Carson City (the bigger ones bordering California) seem to have lost their fool minds and become Anti's. As for the rest of the state, we actually enjoy our guns, use them often, and encourage others to own, operate, and protect themselves with firearms.
My way is not better, it is just mine, your way is not better, it is just yours.
Carry what your comfortable with, there is no "Supergun" Carry how your comfortable, open or concealed, so you have it with you when you need it

    No Doubt

I have no doubt about the rest of your state - Michigan is the same way.
But no one sees the rest of your state. They only see the small portion of raving idiots (liberals and union dominated - the same as the mafia) that Nevada has elected to public office.
It's a shame that a, relatively, few socialists can do to the reputation of an otherwise respectable state.
Like I said - Michigan is no stranger to embarrassing itself by electing socialists. In our case they elected not only a liberal socialist to the governorship, but, a Canadian liberal socialist at that.
Sometimes I'm embarrassed to admit I'm from this state.

    Wanta hear something funny?

The current mayor of Vegas is a former mob lawyer...back in the days. He's decided to retire and not run again. So, his wife is now running.

Actually, he's been a pretty good mayor. I just thought it was funny.

Actually term limits prevented him from running again otherwise he probably would have. He could have run for governor, but he decided against it. Wonder if he will run for county commission in the future.

While I can sort of understand your sentiment, I think you are wrong. I believe AB-143 will be enacted.

AB-143 passed out of the Assembly Judiciary Cmte and passed unanimously on the Assembly floor. AB-143 is now in the Senate awaiting a committee hearing.

Do we have some "issues" with our law? Yes. Bear in mind we've tried to correct some (like the "any semi-auto" issue) in the last two legislative sessions. We did not get "any semi-auto" in 2007 nor 2009 because of Assemblyman Bernie Anderson (Democrat in Washoe County), who was Chair of the Asm Jud Cmte.

Do we have pro-gun legislators? You bet we do!! And I expect to make progress in this 2011 legislative session.

    For example:

    SB-126 “Any Semi-Auto” – STRONGEST SUPPORT

AB-143 “Any Semi-Auto AND CCW Confidentiality” - STRONGEST SUPPORT

SB-175 – CCW Permit Confidentiality – STRONGEST SUPPORT

AB-8 “Castle Doctrine” - STRONGEST SUPPORT

SB-231 “NV Campus Protection Act” (BDR-742) – STRONGEST SUPPORT

SB-176 – Constitutional Carry AND Repeal of Clark Co Handgun Regis – STRONGEST SUPPORT

    AB-231 - Constitutional Carry – STRONGEST SUPPORT

AB-205 – Military Under 21 CCW and MAY Restore NICS Exemption – STRONGEST SUPPORT

AB-185 - Carry in state parks – STRONGEST SUPPORT

SJR-6 – Claims Sovereignty Under the 10th Amendment – STRONGEST SUPPORT

AJR-4 – Claims Sovereignty Under the 10th Amendment – STRONGEST SUPPORT

And, take a look at the list of sponsors/co-sponsors on some of those bills. You might be surprised.

So, to sum it up, its okay to b1tch about what needs to be changed. But are YOU doing anything constructive to support change???

The 76th (2011) Legislative Session began February 7, 2011 and will end June 6, 2011.

SFA’s Legislative Action Committee of unpaid lobbyists plans to attend/testify at every opportunity as feasible. But we need YOUR help.

    What can you do?

Email/write/call/fax your legislators AND all members of the Senate or Assembly committee that will hear pertinent bills. Assembly and Senate contact info/email are available at Nevada Legislature

If possible, attend key committee hearings. Testify in support of good bills – and in opposition to any bad bills.

Visit and use the Nevada Legislature’s website: Nevada Legislature It is a wealth of information!

Click on “Share Your Opinion on Legislative Bills.” Direct link: Share your Opinion with the Legislature Here you can cast your “vote” on a bill and type in an optional comment. Note: Our legislators DO read these votes/comments!

To help in keeping track and up-to-date, use the “Personalized Bill Tracking” feature. Direct link: www.leg.state.nv.us/Session/76th2011/Subscriber/

New this year is the “Nevada Electronic Legislative Information System” – another valuable tool. Direct link: https://nelis.leg.state.nv.us/

Together we CAN and WILL make a difference! Everyone is encouraged to take part! We need your help!

Get busy and show your support!!

If we don't win 'em all, how are we going to ask our good-guy legislators to come back and try again in 2013 IF we don't show support now???
