Very Sad article for our times really.

I just wanted to point out that during the news broadcast of this report it was said you "Could tell the level of someones education by their ZIP code"

You see Ladies and Gentlemen, they are trying to associate income with education.
Poverty has no bearing on it. What does is the environment. Single parent homes with multiple children and no motivation to make your children behave.
Yes, I said MAKE your children behave.
Even more work than marriage is Parenthood. The statistics for marriage are dismal in this country, but the statistics on parents failing their children are unbelievable.

Looking back at history "poor" people have risen from the shadows to get an education. Education lead to their being more successful.
My measure of success was different in my teens and Twenties from what it is today but still I know Education is an important part of the foundation, it is a part of it but not all. Personal motivation, desire, and an understanding of the moral aspects of reaching what ever goals one has set for themselves.

I am sorry, but to blame poverty for test scores is pointing fingers in the wrong direction. Seems like another built in reason for failure.
A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state,
the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.

Some of the poorest students in my school, score the best. Hmmmmm, this couldn't possibly be right. (yes, there was sarcasm in the second sentence)

You are right. Sometimes the kids coming from "less wealthy" places put out the effort to escape those conditions. I had to laugh at Bloomberg, explaining that double digit drops in scores didn't mean the kids were not doing well, only that the standards were tougher.

Anytime I see statistics like this followed by an opinion that only loosely correlates with the data, I'm reminded of the phrase:
Figures never lie, buy liars figure!
