Phil Griffin wants answers. Or at least an investigation.

The MSNBC President complained about a drastic ratings discrepancy between MSNBC and Fox News Tuesday night, describing the results as “election-night numbers”, according to a briefing reported by TVNewser.

“Monday we had a really good day in the key demographic. On the night that Fox News debuted their three shows, we either tied or beat them in those hours,” Griffin said on Friday. The Monday numbers Griffin cited have MSNBC beating Fox News in the 25-54 demographic at 7p.m., and tying it at 10 p.m.

But the victory was short-lived. The Nielson numbers from Tuesday showed a large spike in ratings, just one day after the debut of Fox News’ new broadcast schedule. Griffin’s response to Tuesday’s numbers was incredulous: “you guys should be doing some investigations; I have never seen it in all my years of cable — same overnight, same everything. And they doubled their ratings in a day? It is impossible.”

Under the real spotlight is Fox News’ new primetime show, The Kelly File, which narrowly lost to MSNBC’s The Rachel Maddow Show Monday night by 10,000 viewers.

In only it’s second day, Megyn Kelly’s show more than doubled it’s ratings from Monday’s premiere to reach 623,000 adults age 25-54, an increase of 116 percent. Kelly’s Tuesday numbers bested the combined total of MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow and CNN’s Pierce Morgan in the demographic.

Another primetime cable news anchor Kelly’s ratings topped in the demographic on Tuesday? A guy named Bill O’Reilly.

For the night, Fox News reached an average of 2.43 million viewers and 508,949 adults 25-54.

MSNBC and CNN trailed behind in Tuesday’s ratings, averaging 958,420 viewers and 264,277 adults 25-54, and 577,591 viewers and 173,321 adults 25-54, respectively.

Nielson has not yet commented on Griffin’s statements, as Wednesday and Thursday numbers indicate Kelly still on top in primetime cable broadcasts.

Damn, talk about sore losers! Megyn Kelly has more eye appeal than Rachel Maddow and is more believable.

  4. Let me get this straight.

Fox gets a 116% increase in viewership and MSNBC blows a gasket.
Obama gets 116% of the votes in some areas and they never ask a single question, not even raise an eyebrow.
