Vac in PA, OCing in downtown Philly

I OC daily and went on vacation to PA and drove one of the days to Philly., I knew there were Fed. Bldgs around and came across one with my wife and Sister in Law while walking after parking our car. , so I crossed the street to keep my distance only to run into a Federal Bank bldg so I continued walking and low and behold another Federal bldg plus a City park across the street which there is a ordinance by the Mayor no guns allowed. So I was hot, exhausted while my wife and her sister went to see the liberty bell I finally said screw it and sat on the marble ledge in front of the last Fed bldg waiting next to the sidewalk I had a Park Ranger go by me several times by nothing was said. I felt in a jam but did what I had to do other then standing in the middle of the street. Just thought I would share this.

  3. If I'm not mistaken, PA's preemption prevents them from enacting an ordinance to that effect. I lived outside of Philly for 10 years and never had a problem.

Oh, and the feds usually won't bother you. It's the Philly police and the parking authority you have to watch out for. Bunch of crooks. But at least they shut down that criminal traffic court.

It is only illegal to carry INSIDE a Federal building. So there is no need to walk out of your way around from them. And three Federal bank was not a Federal building because there would be no federal employees working there.

I used to walk past the Federal Court building in downtown Tacoma (WA) all the time- no drama. They don't control the sidewalk.

    Not yet at least.

Thanks. I thought you have to maintain a 1000 ft distance from bldg and cannot be on property as well. I will re-read. I OC'd everyday in Lancaster and one day in Philly and went into every restrauant I can think of to eat, stores, shops as well with no problems. Thx everyone for your response!

You would think people who are going to openly carry guns would take time to learn the laws involved before they do it. Guess not.

Are you here to make insulting comments or work with others like an adult. I don't live there but maybe you can't read due to lack of education.

Note: Philadelphia Mayor Nutter signed a law on 4/4/13 banning carry in city parks. While this law appears to be in violation of PA 18.6120, it may still be enforced until court action is initiated to overturn it.
