Is your congressman a Statesman or politician?

Our Founders were Statesmen...willing to risk their lives and fortunes for the right to freedom under our Constitutional Republic.

Our country needs Statesmen, not politicians, in all levels of government -- federal, state and local. Until we have elected officials that put the good of the country ahead of their own political ambitions, nothing will change in government.

Do we have any true Statesmen in D. C. ? I believe that Randy Forbes, Republican (Virginia), House of Representatives fills the bill. Please let us know if you believe that your congressman/woman is a Statesman! I pray that there is more than ONE in Congress.

God forgive us, if we allow our Constitutional Republic to be wrenched from our hands and transformed into socialism/communism.

I'm sorry to say NO, they are not. While we are a very conservative state, our 2 senators and 1 rep are Dems. Used to be what's called a "conservative" Dem, but they toe the party line always. More distressingly, they brag, our newspapers brag, and some citizenry brag about how "they bring home the bacon". We're one of the states who gets far more back than we pay in. Instead of being ashamed about that, we glorify it.

I have a feeling, CWM, you're gonna be pretty disappointed. Seems to me no one runs a campaign, or governs, for the good of the country anymore. "What's in it for me?" seems to be the modus operandi of both the ruling aristocracy and most of the citizenry.

I can honestly say that our Representative J. Randy Forbes, Republican (VA) stays true to his conservative principles, even though he must feel that he's fighting a losing battle in Congress and, quite often, is the lone voice for sanity and responsibility. He consistently votes against any Bill that is not in the interest of the American people (i.e. healthcare reform, bailouts, pork barrel spending), and his constituents reward him for his loyalty by voting him back into office again and again.

I will wait, patiently, to learn from my forum buddies, if there are other Statesmen acting bravely (and patriotically) on behalf of their constituents.

IMHO, most are politicians. They seem to be in for the wonderful retirement benefits while us retiree's on SS and Medicare don't get cost-of-living increases. Plus now they're trying to screw us with a badly flawed health care bill. Grrrr!
